I have recently purchased an 14.9 cubic foot chest type freezer after the delivery I plugged in the unit and left it runnig for about an hour and lifted the lid to check it out and felt on the inside of the unit . what I found was that the only spot that was cooling off was the inside front panel the sides ,back and the bottom were not cool at all maybe it just takes a while to cool all side just seemed strange that one side was getting cool and the other three were not . do I need to slow down or could this be a problem .

Good day,
That is totally normal. 24 hours is a good test period, and your model may not have refrigeration coils equally on all sides.
Smart to place a paper cup on the bottom center of the machine, half full of water.
When frozen solid, your good to go.

Chest Freezer Stopped Working 14 years old

The first thing you want to ensure is that power is actually getting into the unit. i suggest that you do that by plugging a night light into the outlet and verify the presence or power. If no power, check your breakers. If power is present note that A chest freezer has only two working parts; the start relay that help the compressor start and a compressor. If you are getting clicking sound, your start relay may be out (inexpensive if you can buy it and install it yourself) or a bad compressor. if you need to call a tech for the repair, you may be able to purchase a new chest freezer that now consume HALF the power and for less than cost of repair.

I have bought a 9 foot chest-freezer model FFC0923DW8, and noticed there is a loose yellow cable on the rear bottom corner that sticks out. Is this normal. I have not yet plugged the appliance nor turned...

Hello Ralph Powell - No, it is not normal. Since it was recently purchase, I suggest contacting the store from where it was purchase or the manufacturer directly for procedures on how this issue may be taken care of.

GE 5CF CHEST FREEZER

I got delivery today for the same freezer and had the same question.
I just called GE's customer service number (800-626-2005) and the agent told me that GE uses this button panel (which has the green on/off light switch, the two white switches, and the round control dial) for all or most of its freezers. But the buttons do not do anything on the 5 cubic foot chest freezer. They are not connected to anything and are non-active buttons. On other freezer models above this one, the two switches serve a purpose, but not the 5CF model. This is a simple, inexpensive freezer and it doesn't have bells and whistles--but it does have the same control panel as the multi-feature freezers. Hope that helps.

My brand new freezer wont freeze

I would plug it into a different plug in - not one that is on the same circuit that it is plugged into now. If the plug in is working for other things, it still may be bad and not able to handle the load of the freezer. If your freezer will not work on a completely different circuit, then there could be something wrong with the freezer, but it is not likely since two of them should not be bad. Seems to me more like an electrical problem in your location. Hope this helps you, Rick
