It suddenly started today. I have never had the 18-135 lens off the camera. When I switched the memory card, it worked, but then the problem started again.

Yes, my D80 displays the F- - error after shooting only a few hundred pics. I went to the manual, tried everything they suggested. I thought it might be something which I had done, but, now I think it's the camera. It looks like I, too, will have to ship back to Nikon. I am *extremely* disappointed in my camera.

The F - - error message is to tell you that either no lens is attached or a non-CPU lens is attached.  It seems that if you are using a CPU lens, take it off and gently clean the contacts on the lens with the eraser end of a pencil.  Be careful not to get the eraser bits into any part of the lens or camera.  Re-attach the lens, and it should work.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

When I press the shuuter button down my D80 flashes a bright light. I have tried switching the modelling flash function to off, however this has not solved the problem?

That's called an "autofocus assist lamp". When you prepare to take a picture in low light, the autofocus can struggle to lock on to your subject. The lamp you talk about, illuminates the subject for a moment, so that the autofocus can 'see' when correct focus has been achieved.

It is indeed annoying, but this is the price you pay for sharp photos (it's not possible to wait for the flash to go off, and focus in that moment). One 'solution' would be to turn the focus assist lamp off and live with the poor results. Another 'solution' would be to switch to manual focus. Or you could let the camera focus normally once, apologise to your subject, turn the focus to manual without changing it, and then taking more pictures without the annoyance (but you might have got a good picture the first time, anyway).

Nikon D50 Flashes Err and clicks

hi..
This screen shows areas of the photo that are overexposed slightly.
It flashes them to help you.
You get to this screen by pressing the up or down arrows when displaying the pictures you have taken.

To change it just press the up arrow when the camera is showing the screen until you get a display without flashing.

Once you have done this the display will be steady.
If you get any other screen in future you may have accidently pressed the arrow again.
Just cycle thru the displays to get back to steady.

thank u

Automatic focus not working

The D40x only autofocuses with the latest AF-S (and old professional AF-I) lenses. Most traditional (screw-type) AF lenses from 1986 through today will not autofocus on the D40x. If your lens says "AF-S," you're fine.
Most lenses sold today for the D40x are AF-S, and so is the included 18-55mm kit lens. Many non-Nikon lenses from Tamron, Tokina, Quantaray, Sigma and anyone other than Nikon still won't autofocus on the D40x. Try before you buy, but honestly, there isn't much the included 18-55mm lens won't do.
Autofocus systems are fast, but not usually instantaneous. You have to hold the shutter down halfway as you compose the first shot so the AF system can focus and lock, and then the camera fires instantaneously when you press the shutter the rest of the way. See Preventing Shutter Delay for more.

R05 problem using d70, camera will not take a photo in autofocus

It is actually an error message generated by your compact flash and means that the card is no longer readable. A lot of D70 owners have reported this error without being able to find another solution other than reinserting the card or changing the card to a different brand. You could also try cleaning out the memory card slot and check to see that all pins are aligned and not bent.
Good Luck,
Jeff

How to set up 50 mm lenst for wedding photos .. and flash

Sorry this is too late, perhaps it will be useful to others. I hope you used a different lens for the wedding!

You can't use the 50mm 1.8 lens on the D40x unless you focus manually. This is because the D40x only supports autofocus with AF-S and AF-I lenses. The focus motor and drive mechanism for other AF lenses was omitted to make the camera smaller, lighter and cheaper.

Suddenly it doesn`t focus

try resetting your camera. In record mode press menu. go to setup tab go up to reset press right arrow highlight reset press set. If that doesn't work Call the repairs center at 800-706-2534 and then keep choosing option 1. Tell them what's going on and that you would like to send it in for repairs. If they ask just lie and tell them you already talked to tech support. LOL
