Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My gas dryer has started making a metallic screeching sound after its been running for a bit. Its coming from the rear of the dryer. I'm concerned that it might be the motor. It kind of comes and goes and I can stop it temporarily if I move the drum around a bit. It doesn't start immediately. But after its been running for a bit.

Could have been that the alignment is out of way andis rubbing on when in a particular direction or with the load.
As you have observed the motor could be the issue , it will be good to open and look for the movement of the motor.
The suspensions can be a little out of alignment . also place the dryer in a level postion.
Check for uneven running due to any friction of the drive. If so it can agitate and make it rub on the sides.

My bravos dryer sounds like metal on metal screeching while it runs.

Most likely, the drum suspension has failed. It's probably a worn rear drum bearing, drum roller, or drum slide.

Extremely screeching noise when running?

Screeching is the metal-on-metal contact of the drum touching the rear of the unit while
turning - there's a (usually) felt cover gasket over the circular depression at the back of the dryer.
When this wears through (after a number of years/loads), you get the screeching of
metal-to-metal contact.
Problem: friction can heat up the metal so much that the remaining felt gasket material (and/or
accumulated lint or clothing) catches fire.
Fix: replace felt drum gasket.
The Maytag Atlantis MDE6400AY electric dryer has a DuraCushion(tm) dryer drum, so I'm
suspecting the "DuraCushion" has worn out at least at one point in its 360-degree arc.

Hi my Frifidaire dryer model number feq1442es is making a metal screeching noise somtimes when it is running

With frigidaire, more than likely the rear bearing is going out on if it the screeching sound is happening. the part number for that is 131825900 and will run you about $3.00. Go to apdepot to order the part if needed.

Electric dryer makes a screeching noise while

could be your pulley or rollers or the motor itself you have to take the entire unit apart and visually inspect where the noise is coming from could be rear bearing if the model is old enough if you are not mechanical i suggest you call a tecnician hope this helps

Our dryer is screeching when it is on check the belt and it is good. could it be the roler

That screeching sounds like metal on metal which would indicate to me that there are worn bushings that need replacement. Those roller wheels at the rear and front of the dryer drum can also be the souce of this type of noise, but since you're going to have to remove the drum to gain access to the felt or the wheels, I find it best to replace ALL the wheels and the felt at the same time while I have the unit apart, since it's only a matter of time before the other wheels and/or the felt wear out and start singing their own lovely screeching song.

My dryer is making a screeching sound

Pretty cheap part, but the drum gotta come out. The plastic bearing has worn then and it is starting to get metal to metal contact. Open the door and remove the screws inside that are holding down the top. Get the front off. Take the belt loose and yank the drum out. Replace the bearing.

ED55 dryer making screeching noises

sounds like the rear tub bearing has worn out that would explain the noise and if it got too bad the bearing can break causing the drum to stick and not be able to turn
