Risk of losing data by re-booting CD-ROM recovery disk

Copy off your data to another computer before recovering. A recovery usually restores to factory settings and loses all data.
You could boot to Ubuntu or Linux and copy your stuff that way, then when restored, copy it back.

MRB Error message on Gateway laptop 6510GZ. how can we resolve?

First of all I'm not this smart. I found it and pasted it here for you from:
http://www.pcpowerguide.com/windows/damaged-mbr-error-message/

They get all the credit!

MBR is the acronym for Master Boot Record. The master boot record is located in the boot section of your hard drive, which is the first sector on the first platter. When you boot your computer, the master boot record tells the computer's BIOS (Basic Input Output System) where to find the bootstrap code for the operating system.
So if the MBR is corrupted, the BIOS can't find the operating system and you can get error messages like the following ones:
  • Missing operating system
  • Error loading system
  • Invalid partition table
Looks pretty scary, doesn't it?
However, it is usually not that hard to fix a corrupted MBR and usually the rest f the hard drive is just fine and will boot normally once your fix the master boot record.
What Causes Damage to the MBR? A lot of things can cause damage to the MBR such as viruses designed to corrupt the boot sector. Some of them copy the original MBR to another file. Others do this by overwriting the MBR with virus code. In fact viruses and malware are one of the most frequent causes but, any file can become corrupted especially files that are accessed as frequently as the MBR.
How to Fix the MBR The stapes to fix the MBR are slightly different in the different versions of Windows. So I will cover them separately.
Windows XP
  1. Insert your XP installation disk in the CD-Rom and reboot the computer
  2. When asked, press any key to boot from the CD
  3. When you get the Welcome to Setup screen, press "R" to open the repair console
  4. Enter your administrator password when prompted
  5. At the command prompt, type fixmbr and press enter
  6. When a new command prompt appears, type exit
  7. Remove your installation CD
  8. Restart the computer
Windows Vista
  1. Insert your Vista installation disk in the CD-ROM and reboot the computer
  2. When asked, press any key to boot from the CD
  3. When you get the Install Windows screen, fill in the language and location options and then click Next
  4. Click on the Repair your computer option
  5. Select the Windows Vista operating system and click Next
  6. Enter your administrator password when prompted
  7. In the System Recovery Options, select Command Prompt
  8. When a command prompt appears, type bootrec.exe and press enter to fix the MBR
  9. When a new command prompt appears, type exit
  10. Remove your installation CD
  11. Click Restart in the System Recovery Options window
Windows 7
  1. Insert your Windows 7 installation disk in the CD-ROM and reboot the computer
  2. When asked, press any key to boot from the CD
  3. When you get the Install Windows screen, fill in the language, Time and Keyboard Input options and then click Next
  4. Click on the Repair your computer option
  5. In the System Recovery Options, select Command Prompt
  6. When a command prompt appears, change to the boot directory
  7. Now type bootsect /nt60 SYS and press enter to fix the MBR

You may try booting in safemode.

Follow the steps:

1. Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

2. Do system restore. Follow the steps tp://support.microsoft.com/kb/948247. If it do the same thing go to 3.
3. Recovery.

Actually that error is an indication of some bad sectors on the Hard drive. There is still no guarantee that the recovery will work.

0x00000070 error means that Windows start up failed in an early stage.
If you are unable successfully boot into Windows because of the this error, Windows has an option to reload registry information from the last successful boot. To revert to the last successful boot:
  1. Reboot the computer.
  2. Near the end of the BIOS messages or graphic, but well before anything appears from Windows, press the F8 key. You may only have a few seconds to get the right spot to press F8 before it attempts to go into Windows. If the BIOS complains about a pressed key or asks you to go into BIOS setup, you've pressed F8 too soon (Don't go into BIOS setup).
  3. When successful, you should see a back screen with white text "Windows Advanced Options". Use the up or down arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration and press Enter.
  4. If this does not work you may have already reformatted the original disk partition. If that is the case you will have to re-install windows from scratch.

Error Occurs

I'm going to ask a stupid question. After you run the recovery and the machine reboots, are you getting a prompt to "press and key to boot from CD"?

If so, don't press a key and see if Windows (recovered) will boot.

If not, I'd say you probably need to re-run the recovery and choose a clean Windows install ...or at a minimum, a repair.

Hope this helps - please remember to rate :)

Got following error: Load Error! Press any key to reboot

This problem is indeed caused by a faulty MBR but there are solutions other than zero-filling the drive.
If you can get access to a RipLinux CD there is a little utility called Testdisk that will write a new MBR code to the first block of the drive. I just did this on a Sony PCG-K15 this morning (after cloning the drive just to be safe) that was giving the same error of "LOAD ERROR- Press any key to reboot" and it worked like a charm. The machine booted right up.
Hope this helps...

Load Error! Press a key to reboot

If the computer after power on is checking the drives ie the CD and/or floppy to boot from then it is a software problem. You need to put in your recovery CD/disk and hope fully it will allow you to just fix the errors within the boot up files and not have to install os.

Your norton could help - try booting from that or the ones you produced by using Norton.

If you have to reload then do not format just save old - it should give you that option.
