Nissan Serena loose wires in rear brake light cavity

I've had some electrical problems lately with my car...such things as my front and rear lights coming on when i press the brakes! I was advised to replace my rear brake bulbs and spray the lot with wd40. I did this this morning, and it appears to have solved the problem...but whilst rummaging around the light cavity i noticed 2 wires unstripped and unattached at one end in the left cavity and 1 stripped wire unattached at one end in the right cavity!..Any ideas why they are there...also in the right cavity is a white plastic connection? box where wires are fed in and screwed in place...there is one connection place empty..could this be where the loose wire that is stripped should be? I've been trying to find electrical diagrams for my car to no avail..Please help, many thanks.

Yes that makes sense, ....what would you do with the loose wires...can I just tape the ends up and leave them in there?

what you have is a bugga-boo-something is shorting out or corroded-so what this does is to confuse the main cpu that controls the lights-check the light sockets for corrosion-check your wire harness for wires that are rubbed bare or broken- pinched-start with the lighting wires -unfortunately this problem that is confusing the cpu could be any where in the wiring harness-cheers Denny

My 1995 Nissan Pathfinder has some electrical problems.

it could be a faulty PCM or just a loose connection from it.
Sadly, you have much more harness wiggling to go through before you end up at a repair shop.
good luck.

What wiring do i need to check when i hit my breaks and my head lights pop up?

Now that's funny! Rear fixed...front pops! Since the rear is where the work took place you need to check for crossed wires at the brake lights and turn signal lights. If there is uneven current draw on the circuits, the lights in front could be getting some of the power. Brake lights get the most power in the rear bulbs!

I was riding my 92 fzr600 and the brake lights and blinkers stop working

Hi, Jorden before diagnosing any brake light issue always check the bulb and fuse first for integrity a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, which is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually, rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air contamination in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch.
Before diagnosing any turn signal issue make sure the bulb is good and the light fuse has continuity with a test light. If you have replaced you OEM lights with LED lights you are going to need a load equalizer. If no turn signals work the cause could be a faulty turn signal module or the connector going to it, look for corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets. Contact spray cleaner is great for removing corrosion. If your speedometer does not function properly it will have to be fixed first because your turn signal module gets the data from the speedometer for normal turn signal function. If your front turn signals don't work use a test light to check for power and ground at the bulb socket, then start backtracking the wiring through every wire connector to the turn signal switch/button and check for continuity, go all the way back to the fuse if necessary to find the cause of the malfunction. If your rear turn signals don't work check your rear fender wiring harness connector first for corroded, broken, loose pins/sockets, power, and a good ground, (the harness connector is usually located under the seat on the front of the rear fender) then keep tracing the wiring look for obvious harness damage caused by the rear tire. If you still can't find the malfunction backtrack from the rear fender wiring harness connector. If one side does not work you could have a faulty turn signal switch or module check for continuity. 1994 Chevy C1500 truck. No rear brake lights

Most likely this is a brake light switch issue. Replace switch.

If your emergency flashers don't work, all flasher bulbs are fine, but flashing too fast, then check and replace Hazard light switch.

Brake light does not work when brake is engauged

You have two brake light switches, one for the rear brake and one for the front brake. If neither switch turns the brake light on, the first thing to check is the bulb. If the bulb is good, check the socket and the wiring to it.

If all that is good, find the rear brake master cylinder. Follow the metal tube coming out of it going to the rear brake. Underneath the bike, there is a pressure switch that turns on the rear brake light. Check to make sure the wires are connected and that one set of wires is "hot" when the ignition switch is in the "ON" position. If so, the switch is probably bad. Replace the switch. I have seen them check good with a meter but still not turn on the brake light. Work with the rear brake light switch first as it's the easiest and least expensive to fix. When you get that working, repost and I'll take you through replacing the front brake light switch. It's quite a bit more difficult to replace than the rear switch. I'm sure that procedure is in the archives as well because I've posted it a number of times.

Good Luck
Steve.

I have a 97 bmw 740i and both rear brake lights will not work. what can i fo to troubleshoot the problem?

I have a 2000 740 iL, I found that there was a recall for the brake light switch. It is under the dash just above the brake pedal. The switch is ratcheted for adjustment and wears out. A new switch is around 20 buck and takes about five minutes to change.
