Help scanner not working

My scanner says not connected to pc and i have already installed software

    I just installed the driver and software for XP; is connecting using a USB port and says under properties that is unavailable

    my hardware is Scanner Canon DR3080CII.
    os : win xp
    usb connection not detect by system.
    "please check your cable or turn on"

    any solution?!

    I have a similar problem. My scanner works fine when the computer is first turned on, but if I leave it for a few hours the scanner is no longer recognized. This is usually remedied by pulling out and plugging back in the USB cord in the back of the scanner. Is there are reason why this is happening? WHat can I do to avoid it?

    Windows XP SP2
    Canoscan 4200F v. Version

I think we need more information.

Type of computer (mac/win)
Operating system (windows 98/me/xp/vista xp 64 bit/vista 64bit)

Device information:
Type of scanner:
is it a all in one (printer/copier/fax):

Connection type

Is it USB:
Is it Parallel port:
Is it wireless:

------------------------------------ Should be enough information to give more than the generic advice below ----------------

Try unplugging the device from the computer when it is done booting up and plugging it back into the computer (try a different port too if you can)

If it is USB does it get its power from the computer or one of those black wall wart power supplies. If so is the power supply warm (lets you know it is working)

If it gets power from the computer make sure it is directly connected to the computer and not through a hub (unless the hub is powered and the hub power select switch is set to self powered and not bus)

This is all the information I can provide with the information received

First make sure the scanner is receiving power and is turned on. Then check the connections on the scanner and follow them to the PC. Make sure they are connected properly to the pc and that the cable has a clear path. If you're still having problems let us know.

Scaning software could not be found or make sure your scanner is not connected.please make sure your scanner and your scanning software are properly installed


If your printer or scanner (possible an all in one printer) is connected to the network, you will need a software to access the scanner through the network. The printer already have it but the scanner part you will have to download and install that software.

I does not recognise the scanner

There are just two solutions i will give to you about this particular problem (system not recognizing scanner).

1. firstly, there are some scanners (majority) that needs installation of the software of on the computer before it can be detected or recognized.

2. Secondly, if you have the software of the scanner already installed on your P.C then what i advice you to do is to check the 'USB' port of the scanner and of the computer, because if it's damaged obviously it would not work.

But if these two (2) solutions does not help, you can call a computer engineer to help you fix the problem.

I screwed up and connected the scanner before I installed the software; it won't let me reinstall as it says it's already installed. Help!

control panel- scanners and cameras- unistall- reinstall software.... Chance are though that if the computer is saying software is installed it probably is windows has a tendency of getting software and drivers off the internet by itself

Dont know how to get scanner working

The printer and scanner use different drivers! Check if you installed the scanning driver and software too. Usually the installation media contain a bundled scanning software! Beware of any other driver tha may have been installed in the meantime! You may try a drivers update!

I do not know how to scan

Put the documents that you want to scan on the top of your scanner glass, if you already installed the driver sofware of your printer to your computer, you shouldnt have any problems, just connect the USB cable that came with your printer, and press the Scan button on your printer and that should do it.

SCANNER does NOT respond.

You need to have scanning software installed as well, when you press scan a program should open on your computer to accept the scans. Check in control panel then scanners and faxes and see if the scanner is there.

Also, although I'm not 100 certain, I think that you should first uninstall psc 1317, disconnect it from PC, install software and than connect it to PC. Trying both ways won't hurt for sure. ;-)
