Question about Cameras

2 Answers

I had a camera, canon SD800, and it was stolen. I loved that camera. Which newer model is closest to that model. I am confused because there are so many models that are close, but I want the closest.

You're right. There are a lot of models, and the numbers sometimes don't seem to follow a sequence. But for the SD800 IS, its successors appear to be the SD850 IS (came out in Spring '07), the SD870 IS (came out in Fall '07), and the SD890 IS (brand new now). The features are very similar, and the sensor has gone from 7MP (800) to 8MP (850 and 870) to 10MP (890).
My recommendation would be to try to find a new SD870 IS, or even an SD850 IS, because you should be able to get a good price on one.

The canon sd 870 is a terrific camera- you would pick up a wide angle lens -optical stabilizer face detection etc, 3" lcd-sell cameras for a living and this is a excellent soilid model!

Print copy of handbook for Canon Digital Camera type IXUS 850IS

The IXUS 850 is called the SD800 in some parts of the world. You can download the SD800 manual (and more) from the manufacturer's web site at
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd800_is#BrochuresAndManuals

You can print it yourself, or any office-supply store should be able to print and bind it for you.

My Window 7 can not detect my PowerShot SD800 IS from USB. I can not using Canon software detect camera

Thanks for contacting FixYa Technical Support.

I am not sure if you have attempted to run Canon's most current driver update for the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS, but here is the link for that driver.

Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Drivers for Windows 7

This driver is for Windows 7, 32 bit and 64 bit systems.

What you may want to try first, is to disconnect your camera from your PC, install this driver update and then connect the PowerShot and see if it will detect it.

Driver updates are usually the first steps to take in troubleshooting device connection issues with PCs.

Hope this helps!

Canon SD800 will not turn on.

If youve had it under a year you can try sending it back for warranty and see if they can fix it. However their warranty service sucks if its not actually something wrong with the camera. Maybe try and find a local store that fixes cameras and see if they can clean it out?

My Canon Powershot SD800 IS, has had its lens stuck as if it were zooming out.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

SD800 no longer recognized!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best solution for SDHC is a high speed card reader.
One that hooks up via Firewire.
Some of the compatible cameras with the higher capacity, faster cards are not recognized when connected to the computer... great work around and downloads are quicker too.
