Question about Ingersoll Rand - Rand Type - 30 Reciprocating Air Compressor - 7.5 Hp, 230 Volt 3 Phase, Model - 2475N7.5

1 Answer

Sir, we have 5 IR compressoors in operation in our station for catering to compressed air need for starting of emergency diesel generators. Though the performance had been satisfactory for the past 25 years, we do encounter troubles, needing maintenance on these compressors. The discharghe NRV and the 2nd stage dischage valves fail often and demand replacement once in 4 months. with the increasing awar\eness on equipment availability and reliability, this frequency of maintenance is considered not acceptable. the model we have is Type 30 compressor of Model 242. We operate at receiver pressure of 17.5 kg/cm2. The compressors remain loaded for a maximum of 10 minutes before cutting out. they remain off for about 30 minutes before they start again. We don't have technical details like the discharge temperature expected for these compressors. there is no after cooler provided in the design. could this be a reason for the frequent failure. what is the FAD expected. can you kindly help us with details? regards. s. ravi My e mail id is srinivasanravi96@yahoo.com sravi@npcil.co.in regards

NRV's and discharge valves often fail due to dirt and oil carry over. Carbon build up can cause problems with the discharge valves also. The 242 pump is a very reliable pump that gives little problems. Have these pumps ever been rebuilt? If so how long ago. What type oil do you use? I would use a synthetic oil like t30 all season. This will help with carry over and carbon buildup. Are these parts being installed correctly? Use OEM parts. After market often don't include keepers, screws or other hardware.OEM has all the necessary hardware to correctly replace the valves.

I took de oil filter out i connected direct tube i start de it didnt start

Check de-compression lever. Motor will not start if de-compression lever is operated. The lever stops the valves from closing. If lever is operated then there will be no compression when motor is pulled over with starter cord or electric starter operated.

Check fuel cut off at injector pump is not operated. This is how motor is normally stopped.

There must be no air in the fuel line, fuel filter, injector jump or injector. Undo the fuel line at the injector and pull starter or operate electric starter. Fuel should spit out. If not, crank some more until fuel comes through.

if there is fuel in the tank, filter not blocked and injector pump working then if not fuel at injector then maybe injector pump faulty.

If fuel at injector line then remove injector, crank motor and look for spray of fuel.

If if you have checked for spray of fuel and motor compression then motor should start.

My bashan 250rr starts perfectly, but the emergency switch off, hooter and sometimes the indicators does nt work, and if I switch the key off the engine still runs. what is wrong? starter?

Usually, if the ignition is turned off and the engine still runs, in the case of a petrol engine the engine is "coked" has a carbon build-up which continues to ignite the petrol/air mixture when compressed. If a diesel, the pressure relief valve is not operating at switch-off.

Home generator wont start

Check for spark. If it has spark, try starting using starting fluid. If that starts it, then you know it is a fuel problem. You may need to rebuild the carb.

Generator wont start up unless i spray starter fluid into it

This sounds like a dirty carbureator. Just bad enough that it won't start cold.

What is a glow plug

Glow plugs are heating devices to aid starting diesel vehicles.
Purpose:Diesel engines, unlike petrol engines, do not use spark plugs to induce combustion. Instead, they rely solely on compression to raise the temperature of the air to a point where the diesel will combust spontaneously when introduced to the hot high pressure air. The high pressure and spray pattern of the diesel ensures a controlled, complete burn. The piston rises, compressing the air in the cylinder; this causes the air's temperature to rise. By the time the piston reaches the top of its travel path, the temperature in the cylinder is very high. The fuel mist is then sprayed into the cylinder; it instantly combusts, forcing the piston downwards, thus generating power. The pressure required to heat the air to that temperature, however, necessitates the use of a large and very strong engine block. The problem posed is that in cold weather, if the engine has not been running (as is the case when the car is left to sit overnight), that the large engine block becomes very cold; when one then attempts to start the engine, the cold engine block acts as a heat sink, quickly dissipating the heat generated by the pistons compressing air. The engine is then unable to start, because it cannot generate and maintain enough heat for the fuel to ignite. For that reason indirect injected diesel engines are manufactured with glow-plugs in each prechamber, and direct injected diesel engines are manufactured with glow-plugs in each combustion chamber.

Slugish start on my excursion

Glow plugs do not "fire". You may be confusing the function of glow plugs as analagous to spark plugs in a gasoline engine; the purpose of glow plugs is to heat the air-fuel mixture to a temperature that will support the diesel auto-combustion process. The diesel process is not one in which the air-fuel mixture is ignited via spark like a gas engine; rather, the air-fuel mixture undergoes much higher compression and spontaneously explodes, generating the combustion in a self-sustaining manner. High compression produces much higher heat, but before it can begin, heat must be introduced into the system to get it started.

If you're having sluggish engine performance from your diesel engine, you may have fuel system issues such as fuel pump failure or fuel line restrictions (including fuel filter or strainer clogging), etc. At the "worst" end of the spectrum, one of more of your fuel injectors may have a problem - the fuel injectors on the Powerstrokes not only inject the fuel into the combustion chamber, but are also cooled and lubricated by the fuel - if the vehicle has ever been run out of fuel, the injectors may have been damaged and will need to be inspected for replacement.

I take it it's diesel. Have you renewed filters? Bleed fuel system Make sure there is plenty of diesel flowing out of tank (pipe not blocked) Check lift pump working

My F250 will not start when it is cold out

Gasoline engines work with a spark plug, where an electrode ignites the fuel mixture. Diesel engines operate on the principle of heat and pressure. Compression ratios are very high in diesel engines and when the air is compressed into a very confined space it heats rapidly, then the fuel is injected and combusts. Most diesel engines have a "wait to start" light when you first turn the ignition to on. If the temp is below normal, I might would allow for a few extra seconds for the glow plugs to heat up. The block heater will help though, b/c it raises the temp on the engine and allows for it to build the heat neccesary for combustion.

Diesel generator does not working

After using a diesel generator for a long time, some malfunctions may occur that will cause the generator fail to start.
If diesel generators fail to start, you can analyze the causes from fuel system failure, electric starting system failure, insufficient compression pressure in the cylinder and the low ambient temperature and other factors.
1. Air in the fuel system
2. Fuel line obstruction
3. Fuel filter clogging
4. The handle position of fuel injection pump is not correct
5. Battery power shortage
6. Run out of fuel
