When trying to finalize DVD disc, why do I often get error E 22 Cannot record on this disc (DVD-R)?

I don't know what means error E22 but if you start experience frequently the record errore your burner is failing. Check connections in your computer, specially the data cable if you are using SATA. Use cables with a "clip" so your connection should not get loose.
If everyting is right and you still can't finalize correctly your recording, change your DVD burner

Problem with Mintek MDP-1810 Portable DVD Player that will play movie DVDs but not computer burned video DVD

The problem I think is with the burner on your pc. Try re burning on another program like Nero and pay attention to the options. It will ask you if you wish to play disc in all types of players.

Does my JVC HR-XVC33U have a disc burner or a reader only?

Greetings Lightfingers - Your unit is only capable of viewing DVDs and has no capability for burning DVD's

If you would like to burn DVDs you can buy a burner for a PC for about $20-25 USD at a place like newegg.com.

Regards and thanks for using Fix Ya.

you need to buy a program to burn dvds... NTI cd&dvd maker is a good low budget burning suite.
Or goto www.magix.com and dowload "Goya base" trial version . I believe it is free.

When does it make sense to have a either a DVD or CD burner? What determines which drive type would best suite a user's needs?

A DVD is just over 4 GB of data, while  CD is typically only 650 MB.  With the cheap price of DVDs and drives these days, there isn't much practical reason to have a CD burner over a DVD burner unless you are specifically burning CD-Audio discs.

Home burned DVDs won't load, commercialy produced DVDs load OK

Try using a programme called dvd flick http://www.dvdflick.net/ to author your dvds and use imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn them. I had similar kind of problem with dvds burned with nero and now use dvd flick and imgburn all the time and have had no problems. They are both free programmes so hopefully they will sort the problem out for you :)
