The earphone socket does not deliver constant sound. Can I replace the socket or can it be repaired?

You can replace the earphone socket or also you can replace the wires. But make sure with a multimeter check on the earpiece L&R, the correct fault, continuity of the wires before the sockets is changed.
Buy the right pin and solder with care.

My Philips GoGear Raga 2GB is not working properly. Its earfone jack socket is causing some problems, it doesnt give proper sound now!

The fault could be the earphone, check the earphone in a different device/player, if the fault still appears the the earphone is faulty, probably a broken wire in the cord.
If the earphone is OK then the earphone socket in the MP3 player is faulty. If may be too expensive to repair, unless you can DIY.

When I plug the earphone jack into my MP4 player, I only get sound from one earpiece. I have tried several earphone sets to determine that it is not a problem with the earphones

Hi, this is a very common problem, after you have pulled the ear phones in and out a few times the solder on the earphone socket becomes brittle and breaks making you lose the connection with the circuit board, now as you have ruled out it being an earphone fault then the only possible problem could be the solder.

now sometimes if you wiggle the earphone at the part that goes into the mp3 you can sometimes get the sound working again, but this dont always work so dont rely on this,

now the problem you have is that the cost of getting this part fixed would cost a lot more than buying a new mp4 player.

the cheapest place to try and get this fixed is a tv repair shop, tell them exactly what the problem is so they dont have to test it and see how much they will charge you to resolder the earphone socket back in place properly.

that would be the cheapest option and could possibly get it working again if they will do the work for you

im sorry their is no easy fix but without getting the earphone socket re-soldered it will just never work

let me know if you need further assistance ok

The earphone socket may be at the side or at the back? You will see the headphone logo.
