Question about GE Profile PGSS5PJXSS Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

Open Question

GE Profile PGSS5PJXSS Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator - Bought in 2008. Experienced following problem August 2010. Had same problem in June 2009. Opened door one morning and the unit didn't feel as cold as it normally does. Opened freezer and indeed everything was thawed or on it's way to being thawed. Panel reported temperatures at 0 for freezer and 37 for Refrigerator but obviously that was wrong. Unplugged, waited 15 sec., plugged in. Compressor immediately went on. Checked panel again - reported freezer at 37 and refrigerator at 50. Working fine since problem. This is only the second time that it's happened but want to know if there's a circuit board replacement that might fix this problem - or even a quick fix like unplug monthly, or is it caused by sun spots or some such uncontrollable occurrence. Although only once a year, I hate losing my food.

Check the compressor.
Unplug for 15-20 min. plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will have to be behind the ref to listen and make sure you hear the compressor start and not just a fan running. If you hear a clicking noise then the compressor relay is bad.

SOURCE: Ge Profile Stainless Steel Refrigerator panel replacement

You can replace the doors but you will think you bought a new frig when you see what they cost. Most come as an assembly and are very expensive.

If that is what happened after plugging back in still no change in temperature I recommend you call someone you can trust. Trust is about asking too much these days. You refrigerator does not need to run at all until I or someone can find the problem. If someone there would like the challenge and knows how to use a multi-meter let me know. Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Express Thaw comes on when refrigerator door is closed

We have a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator which we purchased in 2002, Model PSS25NGNACC. Today we had a repairman come to investigate why the Express Thaw 3lb. light was on and could not be shut off. If shut off, it came on again when the door was closed and reopened. The repairman called GE and learned that this light was an air filter change indicator which turns on at some interval (2 years, they said, although we don't remember ever seeing this before). The air filter involved is for the interior of the fridge and is not critical. GE said that newer master control boards have this function disabled, since people rarely changed the filter and GE no longer makes them. I have read our user manual cover to cover and find nothing on this filter. I guess we just have to pay the $70 dollars to have someone come and call GE to figure it out. But, enough of that. To reset the indicator, simultaneously press the following keys on the touchpad and hold for 5 seconds until it beeps:

Adjust Freezer Temp (Warmer)
Express Thaw
Adjust Refrigerator Temp (Colder)

Lights and functions should return to normal.

Led light not working in refrigerator

I have the exact same problem. I saw that I can buy a new LED light fixture for about $115 online. I removed my LED fixture and got no DC voltage difference on the wires when the doors were open or closed. This leads me to believe that the main circuit board is the problem. I also saw the main circuit board for about $125. I'd hate to buy the board and it not be the problem. Have you solved this yet?

GE GFSL6KEXLS Stainless Steel (2585 cu ft) Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator Problem: Freezer handle is all stainless steel is loose. How can I tighten it? I looks like I would have to go through...

look for a small hole on one side of the handle. There should be a set screw there you can tighten. (the handle attaches to a ball shaped peg under the handle, and does not attach from the inside of the door)
