The DC jack, where you plug the power adapter cable, might be loose or defective, & needs to be either re-soldered or replaced.
In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard taken out. Also, the motherboard needs to be checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

Hello,

It sounds like the DC charging port on the laptop may be damaged, or it may be the power cord...here's how to tell:

First thing....remove the laptop battery, click the battery back onto the laptop and try again. If this doesn't help then read on...

When you put the laptop on the dock, it is getting it's power from the dock connector on the bottom of the laptop. When it is not on the dock, it gets power from your DC adapter. Soooo......take the laptop off the dock and plug the DC adapter into the laptop. Do you see ANY led's light up (on the laptop) when you plug the power cord directly into the laptop? If not, then your DC power adapter for the laptop is probably dead. If you DO see any led's light up when you plug the power cord directly into the laptop but the power button won't turn the laptop on, then the power button on the laptop is the problem.

Take your laptop to an electronics store, and see if they have any universal power adapters for laptops (they come with tips to fit all major laptop brands). Test your laptop at the store with their new power adapter. If this fixes it, then buy the adapter. If this does not fix it, then you should take it to a reputable service shop to get the power button repaired or replaced......or call HP if your laptop is still in warranty.

Hope this helps!

Sony vaio not charging while charger plugged in

Seemingly your laptop dc jack is dead. How to confirm it? If you should wiggle your laptop charger on a position to let your laptop charge, it indicates your dc jack is loose. Either replace it or repair it. If your dc jack works well, please check your ac adapter. Maybe your charger is dead.

Battery won't charge at all

maybe you have ac or dc adapter problem try to bend the wires back and forth while you're laptop is plugged in, and see if it is charging whenever you move the wires. if not, your whole charger (ac/dc) is damaged/broken or your battery is. if your unit is still under warranty have it replaced instead of spending money for something under warranty.

You are right, most of the situations like this end up that the charging connector fixed / soldered to the motherboard get damaged because of shaking the connector when ever we connect and disconnect it .

Acer Aspire 7741Z - 4643 that is only 2 month old. It is plugged in, and recognizes that it is plugged in, but does NOT charge the battery. Please let me know what to do. Thanks, Not charging

Hi,

Im very sorry to hear that, please follow these simple steps for you to be able to isolate the exact problem.

1. Removed the battery.
2. Connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the meantime.
3. Turn on the laptop. If the laptop is able to power on, that means that the AC adapter is working fine as well as the DC port. If the laptop is not able to turn on, it maybe the AC adapter itself or the DC port.
4. Try to use another AC adapter if possible, make sure that that AC adapter is working fine. If the laptop is still not turning on, the problem is with the DC port itself. In that case, you will need to replaced the Motherboard itself.

Hope this will help...Your response is very much appreciated...

I just purchased a new battery for my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop and a new power adapter and the battery is still not charging. What could be wrong?

It sounds like the power section of the motherboard is dead. There's a section of your motherboard (where the power adapter plugs in) that is responsible for accepting the incoming DC voltage, partially regulating it, and then sending onto the battery and/or the motherboard for distribution among the components. This power section is the bridge between the power adapter and the battery. If this power section is damaged, the battery won't charge, the laptop may or may not power up, and you'll have irregular power problems... like you described.

Dell 1525 not charging. dc usb board replacement

rubberman

Sorry to hear that you are still having trouble. The only other thing to try is your battery on your buddies notebook. If it works there then it is the charging mechanism on your notebook and this would mean replacing the motherboard.

Power adapter is able to power the laptop but unable to charge

Seems to me a defective power adapter.
Look at the bottom of your laptop on the Dell sticker and look for a rating like this 19.5 volts @ 4.62 amps if your power brick is the PA10 heavy duty one.
The smaller power brick PA12 is only rated at 19.5 volts dc @ 3.34 amps and you would not believe how many Dells were shipped with the smaller power supply and the laptop needs the one rated for 4.62 amps. I have found this on many laptops I have serviced for folks who just have the wrong power brick for their laptops. This is a common cause of the battery never reaching a full charge or just not charging at all. Also, could be a bad motherboard too! Check out the ratings on your laptop sitcker and then look on the charge for the rating there too. They must match.
