Hi.

Problem is likely concerning the defrost conrol, which comprises fan, thermostat, heater element and evap coil.

The evap system is tested energizing the fan and reading Ohms at element and termostat contact, or alternatively bypassing the thermostat by jumping its contacts.
Thermostat and element must both have continuity at room temperature. If one of them reads open, that means that the part is faulty and must be replaced.

You can find parts and diagrams for most models using the link below:

Where do I find parts and diagrams?

Regards.

Ginko.

Rangemaster sxs cream . Why is my fridge and freezer the same temp ???? If anybody could give me an answer or solution.

Jason,
MOST refrigerators get there cold from the freezer side and circulate it via a fan that's also normally inside the freezer. There are three motors normally in a refrigeration system. The inside Evaporator fan motor that circulates air across the evaporator coil inside the box, the Condenser fan motor near the compressor that cools the freon after compression, and the compressor itself. If you open the doors (and sometimes you may have to hold in the door switches) do you hear a fan running? If not you could have a couple things going on: 1. The fan(s) has failed. 2. The freezer Evap coil may of iced over and the fan too is frozen stopped. 3. Your condensing unit:(compressor, condenser fan, condenser coils) has a problem.
It is important to know if the compressor itself is running. If there is a loose connection to the compressor via the start/over load relay (normally attaches directly onto the compressor), or if the start/over load otself is bad the compressor will not run. Best way to tell is via gauges but I doubt your frig has ports. Check to see if your compressor is really hot. Could be bad start/over load relay or bad compressor. Try unplugging your frig for say 30 min then, with your hand on top of a cool compressor, plug the frig back in and see if compressor smoothly vibrates for at least 5 min without becoming very hot or shutting off even though fan continues to run. The fact your fan is running TYPICALLY means the thermostat is calling for lower temps and the fan/compressor kick in together.

It freezes food in the refrigerator section.

Hello,

Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.

Check the plastic air deflector at the top rear of the frig had been knocked off. I replaced it and all is OK. I thought you might add this to your suggestion list. As you know, the deflector directs the freezer air toward the front of the frig and the rear of the cold control, which is now functioning properly.

Fridge is freezing

Hello,

My fridge is freezing things: Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out.
A tip from Gerard in Georgia: My Sears ( Frigidare built ) refrigerator suddenly started freezing thing in the refrigerator compartment. I started to replace the cold control, not having found any other problem, when I discovered that the plastic air deflector at the top rear of the frig had been knocked off. I replaced it and all is OK. I thought you might add this to your suggestion list. As you know, the deflector directs the freezer air toward the front of the frig and the rear of the cold control, which is now functioning properly. Luckily, I found this before rushing out to purchase the control.

Take care.

Freezer fan runs for hours

When compressor cycles off, your freezer fan should shut off as well !

Freezer fan should not be spinning while compressor off.

You might need a control board replacement, that controls fan.

If you are talking about compressor run time, that is a bit excessive, usual causes are dirty condensers but you say they are clean - are your condensers at the bottom of the unit ? If so make sure the condenser fan next to the compressor is running too, blowing air ont he condenser.

GE Side-by-Side Fridge only gets slightly cool at highest setting. Won't freeze water.

Have you cleaned the condenser under the frig?
While you are looking there look to see if the condenser fan is running with the compressor.
If the condenser has been blocked for very long or and the fan is not working there is a good chance that that the compressor is bad. Just clean the condenser and hope for the best.

Freezer cold,frig not

Hi, check and see if the condenser fan motor is still running. Sometimes while cleaning, the fan blade gets hung up and will need to be freed. Migth have knocked some dust or insolation into the fan.
You can access the fan from the back
I hope this helps you. please let me know.

Cooling and freezing problem

When the frig stops cooling properly, is it running at all? If the freezer fan is running and it is not cooling, you can rule out the thermostat and the defrost control. It would be a hard starting compressor or condenser fan. If the frig is not running, then it is likely the thermostat or your electronic defrost control. The defrost control is right behind the thermostat in the same housing. When you play with the Tstat, do it carefully as not to jar the defrost control. If the frig comes on, replace the thermostat.
