My Panasonic CF 27 runs properly for 15 minutes, then very slowly. It has a bad battery, I am using AC power.

Thanks for the posts guys. The program that was using all the computing power was "system", So I was hesitant to delete it. Toughbooks have no fan (at least this one doesn't), and uses the case as its heat sink. So, I didn't think overheating was the problem in this case.
Thinking it was a virus, I reformatted the hard drive and began a new install of XP. About 2/3 of the way through, it slowed again. I removed the (bad) battery (while XP was trying to finish installing) and saw an immediate speed up. Too bad I didn't know that earlier, as I have to reload everything.
Not sure why a dad battery would cause this, but I'll remember the next time. Thanks again guys.

A program is badly designed. When this happens open Task Manager and look for the process that is using all the processing power - close it and uninstall it.

This could be many things.
Overheating, as the computer heats up it may be causing problems with your CPU/Graphics overheating. You could try clean the fans out.
Malware/virus, as all of the programs load in at bootup, you could be suffering from too many programs running at once, or a malware/virus infection, follow this little guide

After using my cf-27, it may run for 5 min. or it may run for 30 min. but then it will shut down. lose power. i do have bad batteries

Your CF-27 performs a thermal shutdown protection the moment it detected a hardware problem. Make sure that the vent holes are not blowing off too much heat. If it does, one or more fans inside went down.

Also, does it shutdown by itself even if plugged into a power adapter? And since you have a bad battery, it time that you change them for a new one; constant shutdown of the laptop would further damage the system.

My CF-29 has battery issues

I'm just thinking that this might be caused by your power supply unit that came with the laptop although I'm not totally sure about this. When you are at home what I would recommend you do is remove the battery and just use the laptop whilst it's connected to the power supply as this preserves the life of the battery. Obviously charge the battery up and when it's full use the battery alone without the power supply unit. Carry out this test if you haven't done so already and connect the power supply but remove the battery and see if you face any problems. If it is the power supply then you may need to replace that. Good luck. Andrew

What does the 'dripping tap' icon on the F8 key mean?

If I remember rightly the key you are looking at is to do with battery/power use, you can set it to run full speed on bat or lower it to a trickle so the battery lasts longer.

Panasonic cf-51 battery not working

It sounds like the battery has gone bad. This happens with Lithium Ion Batteries. It is common for them to no longer hold charge and they must be replaced.

Not worth doing and may not help even if you did.

If power DVD does not work at 450mhz then it wont be any better at 500.

Try using VLC player it plays DVDs and might work for you (its a small program and free)

PanasonicToughbook CF-27: PCMCIA/USB 2.0 Card

Unless you can use external power to the usb 2.0 pcmcia card, a CF-27 probly won't handle the load.
Their power adapters are only 15V and the unit itself is a P2 433 at best. It's just pulling too much power.
Good luck
