Your laser is probably weak or dusty, cleaning the lens with a qtip, might remove some dirt/dust --if it continues to freeze and the discs themselves arent full of fingerprints etc.. than unfortunately the laser is bad and wouldnt be practical to replace

Brand new, won't play dvds but plays cds

HELLO

I would advise you to return the unit to where you bought it from and get an exchange unit. There appears to be a laser problem here - the DVD laser is defective - that's why you can only play CD's! (:-)

Battery pack for model no. 8017/ curtis portable dvd/cd player

From Curtis' website: "Q: Where can I purchase a replacement DVD battery?
Replacement portable DVD batteries can be purchased for $30 from Curtis International Ltd. Please mail a certified check or money order (payable to Curtis International Ltd) to 315 Attwell Drive, Etobicoke, Ontario M9W 5C1, ATTN: Customer Service Department. Make sure to include your name, complete mailing address, phone number with area code, model number of your unit and part required. "

Weigh you options....a new portable DVD player can be bought for not much more.

My curtis dvd player model number DVD 1047 now only playes in black and white.

Curtis = JUNK. Our Curtis DVD failed after only 3 weeks (Horizonal Hold). The remote was **** from day 1. Replaced it with a Sony DVP-NS700H/B with Multi Disc Resume - WOW - a GREAT feature/ player! Cheapo JUNK is ALWAYS a poor value. Stores that sell **** like Curtis - likely sell other "poor value" JUNK as well - we'll avoid um' like the plague ... Consider it a lesson learned.

Won't load DVD for Initial IDM-7110

First check and see what is happening inside. Take something small and stick n the lock mech, which is the hold that a small part of you top to the player sticks in to tell the unit that it is closed. See if the lense light up and moves up and down and also see if it moves forward a bit and back to start position. If player does not do any of this then with fingers move lense down line abit to see if anything is obstruting path. You can move all the way down then place DVD in and try again
