Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

The fresh food section was freezing on the top shelf, and the damper was all the way open. I replaced the damper/thermister, but the damper is still doing the same thing. It's open all the way all the time.

So if it's doning what it's told, the solution is to replace the control board? Refr Evaporator fan motor, control board 9/22/08. Refr Damper/thrmister 8/28/10 The contol board is less than 2 years old.

This damper is controlled by the main board of the fridge in most cases.
Testing should have been conducted to see if voltage was being applied to the "stuck" damper.
It may, in fact, be doing exactly what it's told.

Reply with the model # and I can give you a definitive answer.

Thanks!!

CLICK HERE to see/purchase the main board.

    #801 in THIS DIAGRAM

There is no adaptive defrost timer and it's likely an onboard relay has stuck in the open position.

Test the damper solenoid for voltage .

If it's open, and the solenoid has power (and the damper is not warped causing it to stick open - it is being told to open.

    Replace the Main Board.

The main board is easy to get to behind the access plate. You will find seven different wire harness plugs, six which are white, that are impossible to remove without breaking the retaining clips which hold them in place....but that's OK.....you are throwing away the old board anyway, so nothing lost. The plugs will snap back into each of their respective terminal locations without a problem. Be sure to treat the four white, plastic pins that hold the board in place delicately....you will not want to mess those little dudes up!

This board is prone to failure on this unit.

    Thanks!!

Fridg temp control not regulating the temp in fridg

Refrigerators like the Hotpoint Model HSS25GFP have a air damper that controls fresh food sections temperature. Fresh food compartment is too cold.

It's ether a bad thermister out thermostat or a damper stuck open I would guess.

Why does my side by side amana frig (model ARSE66ZBW) freez anything near the back wall of frig ?

On your Amana model there are a couple things I want you to check. I think that you have already double checked your temperature settings but check the temperature again and set a little warmer if possible. Many times this is not the issue causing the colder than normal temps in the fresh food section. Your model ARSE66ZBW has something called an auto damper Click Here=> ARSE66ZBW Controls Then you will see item location number 8. That is your 12571701 Auto Damper I would like you to see if frost or ice is blocking the vent and causing it to remain open. Read over this service manual=> HERE This manual is not the same as your model but has all the instructions needed to test the components I am discussing. Test the Auto Damper, check all vents inside fresh food compartment, thermostat (if Running Continious) and if damper is stuck in the open position without ice causing the problem the manual and I will be here to help you test the thermostat embedded into the damper to see if the damper itself will need replaced, Looking to here from you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

The food on the refrigrator side is freezing. the water line is not working so i assume its frozen as well.

Hello Tina,

The problem with it freezing in the freshfood section is going to be because the air damper that opens and closes to let cold into the ref. section is stuck open and too much cold air is entering into the ref. compartment. This is a fairly common occurence with the GE refrigs. and by replacing the fresh food air damper which is located in the upper left corner of the fresh food compartment it will open and close properly and not allow too much cold air to enter where upon it freezes everything.

Fridge side is getting very cold to the extent basic products are freezing. temp usually 2-3 deg now down to -6 to - 8.

Hello,
On the top left corner of the fresh food (ref) section is damper door that opens and closes to let cold air into the the fresh food compartment when it needs cold air. That damper is stuck open letting in air all the time,that damper needs to be replaced. This is the part number for it 12571701 it could be purchased from your local appliance parts store or online at;

Not cooling properly

Hello,

First thing- set the controls at the mid range of their settings. Next, check the coils under the fridge to see if they are clogged with dust, etc. Next, using a couple stem thermometers, determine the temps in the freezer and fresh food sections. In the fresh food section, place a tall glass of water on a shelf in the middle, put the thermometer in and let it set for awhile in the fridge. Inside the fresh food section, look for the damper opening at the top of the wall in between the two sections. Wet the back of your fingers- can you feel air blowing through the damper opening? Inside the freezer section, look at the back wall- any frost buildup there.

Hope this help.....

Top of my ref. freezes items in the vegetable keeper plus on the bottom shelf if placed to far to the back

If your model is the ABB1927DE between the freezer compartment and refrigerator compartment there is something called a Air damper control assembly. Sometimes they just get stuck open but other times the the power that changes the damper opening or closing. If you could ask for freezer colder and fresh food compartment warmer on the controls and nothing changes then it is a toss up between the control board inside the fresh food compartment and the Air damper control assembly. I will give you some time to see what I am talking about with photos and illustration's. I will return soon, Thanks,Sea Breeze

Refrig. is freezing food

Your problem is going to be with your damper if its a side by side, the damper is what will direct the airflow from the freezer section to the fresh food side. Often times the flap will break off or stick open allowing cold air to enter the ref section all the time. This will cause the food to freeze usually towards the top of the unit. Or possibly a bad temperature control causing the unit to run constantly.

Ed22pwxxn00 setting on 3 top shelf items freeze. Is our 18 yr old fridge going out?

Adjust the freezer damper to a higher number to reduce cold air flow to the fridge section. This will eliminate freezing in the fresh food section.

Fresh food side freezing

the air damper is stuck open or tempature control is bad. look thru the vents(use a mirror) on the left rear(top side) of the fresh food compartment (right hand door) to see if the air damper is open/closed. i am sure it will be open since your freezing food in the ref section. if it is open ,watching with your mirror turn ref (fresh food) control off. the air dmper should close, if not damper could be stuck(ice build up,piece of foam, ect) if you can determine damper door is free, then best thing to do is replace controlassy.(120.00 or so) good luck
