Question about Nikon Coolpix 8800 Digital Camera

2 Answers

My Coolpix 8800 only shows start screen " Coolpix ", when I put switch on "on" position, and nothing else . It does not react on any button. To turn it off ,I have to put switch on off and take battery out, only then lens goes back into camerabody. Is there something I can try myself before sending it to repair ?

I live in Belgium, so I don't think I can be helped by an Atlanta repair service.
I am afraid I 'll have to bring it to local repair service.
    Thanks for help anyway!

Loose LCD connectors seems to be the problem- A notorious problem on most Nikon Cameras. To verify this, despite of not being able to see anything try pressing the "Shutter release" button and see if it takes a pic(verify by backing up and deleting all existing pics on the cam and then try the above method). Please post back with your results so that we can continue troubleshooting

I don't know if your camera is still under warranty, but before I bought my Nikon, I did a little reading up on their camera's, and the coolpix had a lot of complaints , saying that Nikon wouldn't fix them, etc, Anyway, I bought a busted D-50, figuring I could get it repaired for a small amount and have a nice camera, Cost me about $5 more than a brand new camera to fix!!! So, what was I going to do.? I have a brand new camera! Anyway, I found a camera repair place in Atlanta, and they did a great job, no BS, price up front, I can't remember the name, but if you Google Nikon repair in Atlanta, you will find them. I don't think there is any trick to recovering your functions, like switch on and hit shutter 5 times, I know they can do that to a car and a printer, but I don't know about a camera. Hope this helps.

How do I turn off the flash for my nikon coolpix 8800

In any of the point&shoot modes the camera will decide whether to fire the flash or not.

In the P, S, A, and M modes, press the MENU button. Select "Show all menus" and press the button in the center of the multiselector (I'll call this the OK button from here on). Scroll down to "Speedlight opt" and press OK. Select "Speedlight cntl" and press OK. Select "Internal off" and press OK.

Full details are in the "Speedlight Options" section of the manual (page 104 in my copy). If you need a manual, you may download a copy here.

When i turnon my coolpix s550 screen shows the messaga memory card is write protected i try everything do nothing can you pl tell me the problem thanks

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Nikon Coolpix 8800 - viewing photo when using viewfinder

Hi there, thanks for coming to FixYa. My name is Rob and I can help you with that.

Take a look at the back of your camera. Just above the display screen, you can see a button that has something that looks like this |O| The button has a horizontal oval inbetween two vertical lines. Press that button when the camera is on and you will see what the camera sees in the monitor. If you press it again, it will revert back to the electronic viewfinder. If it is set to monitor, then it will always show on the monitor until you hit the button to change it.

That will solve your problem. I would appreciate a fixya rating. If you have anymore questions, or need more help, let me know in a comment.

Memory card

Hi Janet, do this:
To fix this, remove the SD card from your camera. Look on the side and you will find a little switch. One end of the switch says locked the other end says unlocked. Move the switch from locked to unlocked. Replace it in your camera and turn it back on.

Thanks for coming to FixYa and fee free to rate my solution.
