My speed queen serial # LWS17mw-1000 is spinning with a loud noise on wash cycle. I have disassembled it and reached to the gearbox attachingto the top bearing. The course sound is coming from the bearing. However there is a problem disassembling the gearbox from the bearing. Is there a special way to disassemble ? Can you kindly advise?

Well, the only time the washer (speedqueen) is noisy on spin is if one or both the bearings are faulty. Normally when you get a leak, it means the hub/flange and seal kit need replacement and this also includes the top bearing because when soap suds leak past the seal assembly it drips directly onto the bearing. The acidic properties in the soap suds eats the grease in the bearing which ends up becoming defective. One can also get an anoying squeek if a bottom base gasket is worn or removed. This would be audible even on wash cycle.Conclusion, check the bearing on top of gearbox.

you need to see if the motor turns one direction during wash and the other during the spin. If so, your gearbox is faulty and needs replacement. If motor only goes in one direction at all times, then very possible, the timer is faulty.

The tub seal leaks and washes the lubricant from the upper bearing making the roaring noise in spin. The bearing needs replacement now, also the tub seal comes as a kit to rebuild all the sealing surfaces. It also does require a complete dissasembly to install the new kit plus the bearing. I would charge 3 hours labor @ 75/hr and the parts would be around $100 for the hub-n-seal kit and the bearing. However you may want to consider a new machine with a better warranty (extended warranties are a MUST these days......BUY ONE with any new appliance.
