SOURCE: Screen goes black after windows XP logo, then no response.

I would suggest checking your hard drive to see whether or not it has a bad sector on it.

SOURCE: one long beep, two shorter beeps - HP laptop will not start up

Hi...
I had the same problem...
The solution is only temporary and you will have to reapply it after around 5 to 6 boots cuz it'll just happen again (the beep syndrome).

Just heat up the laptop by turning it on and covering its air vents with your hands.

Then after you hear the beeps turn it off.
Turn the laptop on again and immediately turn it over upside down with the lid closed ofcoarse (simply put it on its back).Hopefully you wont hear the beeps and when you open up the laptop lcd...voila display.

SOURCE: laptop turns on but screen stays black

probably itz either minor case of software corruption/improper ground/cpu fan..
or major case of faulty or defective main board/ram/addon/daughter cards..

..plz do check the following as in order:..
the Hardware part:..
1)a) in power-on mode, open/unplug the data/vga cable of the monitor from cabinet..see if raster or 'osd' is appearing on the monitor screen..if so monitor is ok..else replace the monitor and see..[not applicable in case of laptop]..
b) in case of laptop try to get output from external display unit/monitor using vga port..if there's proper display in there..the problem is probably with either the 'lcd' or 'ccfl' or 'inverter circuit'..

2) if u hv a graphics card, replace with a standby or onboard and see..[not applicable in case of laptop]..

3) unplug mains supply..pick open/remove the cmos battery..check (above +3v)..resit..

4) see if the ram(s) is loose/faulty..open clean/remove carbon & or oxide formed on the teeth with an eraser n resit it..or replace with a standby n see..

5) a) see if ur hdd is noisy or emitting any 'ticking' noise (like 'tuk tuk' or 'kirr kirr')..
b) or if the system is not supporting either the newly installed device or itz software/driver /firmware
if so, u need either a fresh os installation or ur hdd is likely to b replaced..

6) remove/clean dust neatly..dust is non-uniform in nature n may cause jam/short circuitry/excess resistance n many more..resulting an increase in heat..

7) open the CPU Heat-Sink with fan out of the socket..put some "Heat Sink Compound" (available in local electronics chip level spare market)between the cpu/processor and the CPU Heat Sink *** fan..resit/fit it tightly in position..

8) on main/mother board..see with a debug card for mb error..may b short..look for defective capacitors(espabove1000mfd)/mosfets..go through the mb's south bridge n the circuit lie around atx connector..the crystal clock generator (if cpu isn't heating up)..

9) [in case of desktop] the smps itself may b defective/faulty..check the outputs of smps viz. 0v (black~ground); +12v(yellow); +5v (red, green~ps-on, violet~pg& grey~sb); -12v (blue);-5v(white); +3.3v(orange)..the 'oscillator and error amplifier ic',or pwm switching regulator circuit..look for defective protector-transformer/resistance (esp 4.7k)/mosfet..
check the battery n adapter [main power], in case of laptops..

for any further assistance u may plz leave comment and or testimonials at any point of time, so that i/we can help or u think it to b helpful..

if u r not a professional, always better to seek advise from ur system admin/vendor....

SOURCE: black screen on booting my Compaq 610 notebook

If it seems like you're accessing the hard drive (drive light comes on, flickers intermittently, then goes off, it's a good chance your screen is bad.

First thing to do is plug in an external monitor and start up the laptop. If it comes up with windows, you know it's the screen.

To find out if it's the backlight, or the lcd, toggle the monitor function and shine a flashlight on a slight angle to the screen. If you can faintly see what was displayed on the external monitor, then the backlight inverter is probably bad.

If the external monitor didn't come up, you're probably looking at a motherboard.

The good thing is that all of those are covered for one year under Compaq's warranty, on a new machine.

If you are able to use the external monitor, back up your data, because HP/Compaq usually reformat the harddrive. Additionally, if you've added memory, pull the cards. They want it sent back the way it came from the factory.

At switchon the mother board bleeps continously for about 10 secs takes a break 5 secs then goes bleep again for another 10 secs and repeats the cycle reapetedly until switch off. All drives have been...

It is a very real possibility as there are no beeps when it is removed, but that does not mean it is faulty, you could be getting POST beeps suggesting there is a fault with the mainboard, have it checked out with a local & reliable engineer who may be able to solve your problem.

Hello! I have an Hp laptop touch screen Tx1016AU, earlier my wifi would not be detected and later in next 3 months my laptop wont start When I switch on the power switch it blink for 1 sec and then goes...

this is called the black screen of *****
but you failed to say if BIOS is dead. too.
is it? BIOS even runs with the HDD removed, and MUST.
be nicer to say in detail only what happens with power button pushed, battery out.
it can do many things right and wrong,
only one word here matters (pair) GOES OFF.
that is a bad power pack.
why not replace that first,. and for sure if you can not reach and hold BIOS screens.

old notebook with Vista 32 I bet. is it?
as old as 2008 made, and supported.

the line power pack, get a new one. 19vdc is HP normal power.
packs go bad, its common,
and is like $15 fix. unlike fixing the dead PC, in a shop for $300
or more.
why delay for such low, cash? ?>?????

  1. bad power pack
  2. CPU overheating in 1sec, and auto shuts off.
  3. mobo regulators bad. or shorts on there bus lines.
  4. others, many.

your symtoms are POWER FAILURE
a pc that does not turn on is that.
but can be more complex it is after all a computer.

every way possible is here, and more. lots more.
your PC has flash codes, the keyboard LED flash. a code
if yes, they MATTER FIRST.
