Question about Sony CDX-L280 CD Player

2 Answers

Cdx L-280 display gas failed. Unit works OK, button lights work, but no display of clock / frequency / track number etc. Is problem likely to be in the detachable panel? (Contacts have been cleaned, look OK.)

    Thanks - I thought so, but can't find a source of parts, so I guess the unit has to be junked, Sad, not very eco-friendly, but the way of the world. Maybe 4 years service is all I should expect from Sony today!

Unfortunately the display is damaged as it is the gas filled type. You cannot anything than to have this display unit replaced.
But first of all unless you have noticed a crack or a broken bulb end of the gas filling, the filament continutiy can be checked.
Then check on the 2.5 volt AC to the filament of the display.
If the glas is not damaged, filament voltage is ok, then the fault can be the display driver IC, check the rail negative voltage of the --32V and the working supply voltage of +5.
Only if the glass is intact.

It is definitive the LCD display that is gone on the detachable panel. As much as I remember they can be replaced but am not sure about the cost.

We have a radio in our RV and no manual. It is a Jensen VR185. Can you help us to set the time on this radio.

Press T/F (7) momentarily to change the information displayed by the unit from mode-specific

information (radio frequency, CD track number, etc.) to the clock display. Press T/F again to

return to the default display.

The T/F button is also used to set the clock to the correct time. Press and hold T/F to enter into

clock set mode. When the time flashes on the display, rotate the volume control to adjust the

hours. When finished, press T/F again and rotate the volume control to adjust the minutes.
When no adjustments have been made for five seconds, the unit will resume normal operation.

Try resetting it. Remove front panel, on main unit is an indent that says reset, insert ballpoint to reset and replace front panel. Everything should now work although you will need to reset stations and clock.

Have you tried resetting the unit? Remove faceplate and push the reset button with a ball point pen. If it's a bluetooth model there is a different procedure.
