It is possible that the auto focus motor drive or the drive circuit is faulty. What can be done fromthe outside to take the battery out for about 10 minutes and also remove off the memory card. Now replace and test. If the fault stays then repeat with a slight tap on the lens hood on your palm .If no difference then the set must be opened but I would advice this is not a DIY job. But if you want to proceed then use correct tools and open to get access to the Mp circuit. On this you can find the feed lines to the lens drive. Check on the drive on this section. However only in event of a fusible resistor, open line or break or jammed motor can a job be done because if the IC drive is suspect we need to get back to Canon.

Thanks for the solution. This morning my camera's focus had stopped working. When I was pressing the click button down, I could hear some clicking sound as if it was trying to focus but maybe something was stuck in it ( guessing....sand from the beach trip). I tapped hard with lens open , a few times, and focus just started working....happy now...and am going to take better care of my camera....cheers

Hi Noodle
One of Pentax's strengths is that that you can use lenses from the late 1960s on them (via an adaptor). However, I'm assuming that you have a bayonet fitting lens - but as you say 'my manual pentax' could it be that they are not autofocus lenses?
If autofocus is switched on and you have a manual focus lens, you have to have something in focus in order for the shutter to fire. (with no lens fitted it doesn't seem to matter). Switch the camera to manual focus (where you can shoot out-of-focus stuff) and see if the problem is still there.
If it is then it spounds as though there is something amiss with the camera to lens coupling.

It doesn't allow me to take a shot. On a lense itself, there are two settings A and M. When it it is on M it takes a blurry shot, but on A setting doesn't allow. Please, help me.

M means Manual Focus. If you set the lens to this then you need to turn the lens manually to get it into focus.
A means Auto Focus and when the lens is det to this it should focus automatically but you need to set the mode button OFF Manual. It should work on any other setting.

The rocker zoom in and out on the top has frozen and doesn't work suddenly :(

Hi,

I think focusing ring got stuck or jammed. What you can try to do is spray some compressed AIR into the lens to try to free up any sand or dust that may have worked its way in. If that doesn't help, you can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.

or.......

You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Good luck and have a nice day.

Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

This lens makes a whirring noise when attached to the camera body. It will not focus in either manual or automatic. The camera works well with the other lens.

Sounds like the focus mechanism is broken on that lens. There's a small screw on the back of it where it meets the camera body, the motor in the camera body turns that screw to autofocus. To me it sounds like the screw is turning, but the lens isn't focusing. You said it also doesn't focus in manual mode, so there is probably something inside the lens that needs repair or replacement. Your best option is to take it to a camera repair shop and ask them for an estimate, camera lenses are not the kind of thing you can take apart and fix on your own. Hope that helps.

Hi Ref: Digital Camera - Pentax K200 model It keeps auto focusing when in manual mode. Regards Chris

Putting the camera in manual mode still doesn't change the focus routine. If you want manual focus, there is a switch near the lens on the left allowing AF (auto focus) and MF(manual focus).

How to adjust nikon lens focus

When you say a shift focus issue, what exactly is the issue? Will it not focus to infinity? Is it never in focus, no matter what? Is it an AF lense that is searching for focus?

Either way, it really requires an experienced tech in all but the last case. There are cases where AF simply doesn't work well. You can have it checked, but its likely nothing.

The other issues, it's likely either a misaligned element, an element that's come uncemented, etc. You may be able to look through the lense and see if you can see any separation in the elements, though sometimes it's not terribly evident.

Unfortunately, often unless it's a simple issue lenses are more expensive to open up and do major repairs to than they are to replace. If you'd really like it looked at, contact Nikon for a service center, a local reputable shop, or contact KEH Camera in Atlanta, GA.

What kind of device are we talking about here? Actually, it doesn't matter, since this type of problem almost always requires servicing. Servicing or buying a new camera is always a process you have to make the call on. Get an estimate from a camera shop, and go from there.

It is likely to be an issue with the auto focus in the lens. You will get the grinding noise even if you switch the camera on in manual focus, but not if you take pictures in manual focus.

Just out of random, my wifes HP camera was out of focus from the box. Found that turning the outer circle round the lens put it in focus (like an old camera.) I have an HP VGA Webcam (EW193AA)
Give it a shot (tho don't turn too hard if it doesn't really move lol)
