My modem disappeared off my laptop, how do I get it back?
Last night I used the modem to connect to the internet and it worked fine. This morning there is no longer a modem on my computer. It does not even exist in the system hardware profile any more. It just vanished. Is there a way to make the computer know it is still there?

Sounds like your comp did its own system restore on you and the file needed to keep parameters of modem connection disapeared

first confirm that your touch pad is working or not. yor touch pad may be disabled or it may be dead. you can enable your touch pad in it's setting. you can connect an external mouse to your laptop to check that. or you can enable mouse keys in control panel.
please forgive short answers or bad typing i broke my wrist in an auto accident last night. there are modems with call waiting. if yours has call waiting go into your help file and it should tll you how. if your modem doesn't have call waiting or you don't have it on your phone then you'll need a different modem and/or will have to add call waiting to your phone line. however, if you add this and/or set it up it will corrupt any downloads happening when a call comes in. most people usually end up turning call waiting off eventually.
Hardwired to modem or router? Router = check connection to router (had a router die on me last fall - not AC supply) IP should be 192.168.1.xx or 192.168.2.xx (is standard) Reset Router = reset hole on back - hold for 10 sec Modem= same directions as router (most modems work like single port routers) (do reset of cable modem, I've had that prob too) Using PPOE connection = check log on info Took most of my home network apart to find it was the modem causing the problem - should've started there.
The firewall is blocking the connection. Turn off all computers. Turn off router and modem. In this order, turn them all back on. First modem, wait one minute. Next router, wait one minute. Last, all computers. You should have connection now.
could do wifi, might need a new cable, mine just fried up last night, could go into the start menu then settings click on network connections, and tell me what you see in that menu...it could be as simple as that jack is just broken
Could it be the screen saver when you said about Vertical lines.
I mean ,your computer was set to a certain period of time that if it stay idle, then the screen saver program will start to run.
