Hello

OK, this adapters are more or less standard. You will be able to buy a new adapter at any computer store near you. Just take you laptop with you when you go to buy the new cable, because there is small differences like the amperage.

Kind regards
Andrea

Does this notebook have a fax modem

Which notebook? You didn't give us a brand and model number.

Look on the sides and see if it has a port that will accept a telephone cord. If so, that's the modem port. Don't get it confused with the Network Cable port. The network cable port will be larger, but they both look the same. In fact if you tried to put the network cable into the modem port, it won't fit because the network cable is bigger than the telephone cord.

The DC Jack is the socket into which the power cable plugs into your notebook. If it has come loose the the solder points connecting the jack to the motherboard have broken contact and that is why the notebook is not charging. A loose DC jack is not suitable for DIY repair unless you are experienced in internal notebook repairs and have all the right equipment.
The only way to get this fault repaired is for a professional notebook repair technician to completely disassemble the notebook and then either re-solder the original jack back into place or install and solder in a new replacement jack before reassembling the notebook. Because of the skill and time it takes to disassemble repair and reassemble a notebook, repairing a loose DC jack can be expensive, but if you look around you should be able to find an experienced notebook repair center that will do it for $50-$75 and give you a warranty as well.
A DC jack often become loose if it is allowed to directly bear the deadweight of the heavy AC/DC Adapter on the power cable or the cable catches on something wile connected to the notebook. the AC/DC Adapter should lie full weight on the floor during charging. If the cable is not long enough for the heavy AC/DC Adapter to reach the floor, then it should be lifted it up and placed on the desk or table beside the notebook. Any cable length problems should be solved by using a surge-protected power extension cable. Also, a notebook should never be carried around when its power cable is attached to it.

MY COMPUTER SCREEN LOOKS LIKE IT WENT THROUGH A SHREADER

Sounds like either a driver problem or a defective graphics chip. Is this a new or older notebook? Determine your graphics manufacturer and try downloading their latest driver for your video graphics software or hardware driver.

If it is a defective chip, you will need to contact the notebook manufacturer to get repair service. If the notebook is less than a year old you should be able to get the service for free. If you have an extended warranty then it should cover your situation.

Hope this helps.

Left & right arrow keys not working.

Try to connect an external keyboard, see if that one works. If it does, then the problem is most likely a loose ribbon cable from the internal keyboard to the motherboard (especially if you recently installed a new one) - also, while you are examining the cable, look for any tears, cuts, or kinks in the cable. Good luck!

The port you're looking for looks like this:

0ee3505.jpg

It's called an SVHS or stereo VHS output port, and with an SVHS cable should be able to be plugged into a cable box.

Note that this is a ONE WAY PORT - it takes a signal FROM the notebook, not TO the notebook. If you want to view television pictures on your notebook you will need further hardware. This port is only for viewing your computer output through a television or other device.

It very well could be a easy fix, Usually the Ribbon which connects from the LCD screen to the Notebooks motherboard gets bent/torn/damaged by extensive CD movement.. A close look at the Ribbon, if reveals tears or any damages a new (10-15$) Ribbon Cable may very well be in order if not a new notebook itself.. :-)
