Hi,

Try booting the machine up in safe mode. To do this restart the machine and repeatedly tap F8. When the sub menu appears choose safe mode as see if you get the same message again. If you don't and it boots to safe mode and then follow certains steps to recover the operating system.

We now need to use the Check Disk Utility to repair the problem.

Start the system in Safe Mode if the machine already isn't.

To do this click on the start menu and again click on Run. In the box type cmd a command line window will open. For Vista type cmd in the search box and hit enter.
In the command line window type chkdsk /r and hit enter. You will get a message saying that the volume cannot be locked and would you like to schedule a disk check next time the computer restarts. Type Y and then hit enter. Close the window and restart your pc.

Disk check will start and repair any bad files and fix any bad sectors before loading the operating system and could take 2 to 3 hours to complete depending on the state of the volume.

Once its done it will reboot in normal mode. See if the disk check has done its job and try using the applications that has been crashing the computer.

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

Would you mind if I ask you something more? I need to know the operating system installed on your system, i.e. windows vista, windows 7 or etc... In windows vista and windows 7, this problem is known and there are several patches to fight these bugs. Another case, you need to let me know the year of the purchased. I hope you know the lifespan of a hard disk, it should be not more than 5 years, even if it's working after 5 years, it may crash one day without any warning. One more question, listen the sound of the hard disk very carefully, if you hear any unusual sound like tick tick or tak tak or etc etc.. you have to take note of the sounds and let me know, it might sound funny but this is one of the most important part in troubleshooting a machine. Many systems with bluescreen is fixed after replacing the hard disk, i don't mean motherboard couldn't be the cause, but in your case, it's already done. Another culprit is the Ram. If you have another spare, that'd be very helpful for us in troubleshooting this. Also the data cables are sometimes involved.
Well, let me know whatever I need to know before I help you troubleshoot this. I'll send you the links for the patches after i receive your reply.

Thanks and awaiting.

You simply need to boot through your operating systems CD inside it when it ask boot through CD just press any key. once setup starts hit enter ignore the repair option for the first time hit R when the repair option appears for the second time. When the system completes the repair your pc will be all ok. Kindly do let me know if you don't understand the procedure explained above.

You don't require the recovery CD to repair. I'm asking for the CD of windows XP which you purchased in 06. Thats your operating system CD and through that only you can repair your pc. You have to arrange operating system CD from somewhere.

Well a friend of mine bought a replacement motherboard an E310 for his computer and now the it turns on but isnt working. the powerlight is staying amber and not turning green

Make sure The P4 Power connector cable is Plugged into The motherboard (pictured)flooganbarg.jpg

If that is not your problem you should look to make sure there's stand offs holding the motherboard in the case and it's not just screwed in and touching the metal case, this would cause a short and prevent the motherboard from Posting.

You may also want to check if the power button is correctly hooked up to the motherboard.

My dell e310 will not turn on

Check the power cord make shure both ends are not loose. Check the switch on the back of the tower. If the computer is pluged in to a power strip check the surge protector most have lighted switch and a reset button. If no power at the wall outlet check that a wall switch doesn't control it and is on. Check circut breaker Or fuse pannel.
Hope This Helps
