Hmm see if it is an desktop you actually have to press del to enter the setup ..for bios ..and if it is a laptop f2..and press it repeatedly..if you are not sure about the timing , soon after the first thing shown on the screen ..
if it is a HP..you have to press F10 to enter set-up ..no matter if it is a laptop or a desktop ..cause they have this particularity in setting s..
I repeat ..after the first thing apeared on screen ..press the needed button twice a second..like a clock ..and you will be sure you will catch the right moment ..

I have installed Windows 7 to my Acer Aspire One AOD255 but i want to revert it back to Windows XP and I no longer have the Windows.old folder. How can i downgrade it back?

If it originally came with Windows XP and it has the recovery partition still untouched (assuming the disk hadn't been formated to only one partition), you might recover the system from the hidden recovery partition.

To initiate this process, switch on the laptop and press F10 when the ACER logo appears (some computers need you to press ALT and F10 together, instead of the F10 only. If the Acer Recovery Management starts, you just have to follow the instructions to recover your system.

If nothing happens after pressing F10 or ALT and F10, you will need to get a Windows XP installation CD and a external CD drive to reinstall the whole system.

In this case, first you have to enter setup by pressing F2 at boot time, as soon as the ACER logo appears in the screen. Then, you will need to switch the SATA Mode to IDE from AHCI.

Select: Main -> SATA Mode -> IDE

This is done to allow Window XP to see your SATA.as an IDE disk and install the system.

When you get the external USB CD/DVD driver to use with a Windows XP installer CD, connect it to you laptop, switch it on and press F2 again to enter Setup.

This time, scroll over to the BOOT menu and press Enter. Scroll down to the last option USB CD- Rom and then use the F5 key to move it to the top of the boot list order. Then press Escape and then F10 and finally Enter. The computer will restart and load the CD and you can start the installation of Windows XP.

Hope this info may help you!

Reinstalling your Operating System is one of the methods of computer maintenance, and is a bit complex.
With these steps, you will successfully install Windows XP into your computer.
These steps are similar to other Windows OS installations (Vista, Windows 7).
Below is the detailed procedure of installing Microsoft Windows XP:
  • Before installing Windows XP or any other operating system, you should backup all your data. Data can be backed up on a separate partition, if the hard disk is partitioned or you can back it up on external storage devices like CDs or on a network.
  • Restart the computer and go to the Setup menu by pressing F2 and change the first boot device to CD, press Esc and save settings.
  • Insert the CD labeled Microsoft Windows XP into the computer and restart the computer.
  • When the pc restarts, a message will appear telling you to press any key to boot from CD, press a key immediately the message appears and the setup process will begin.
  • After the files have been loaded, Windows will start and it will give you an option of repairing using Recovery Console by pressing “R” or continue with setup by pressing “ENTER”; press enter to continue with setup.
  • Setup will list all your disk partitions, highlight the partition where you want to install Windows, this is mainly partition “C”, press “D” to delete the partition, then press “L” to confirm.
  • Highlight the partition you deleted, and then press “C” to create a new partition, press “ENTER” to create the partition.
  • Press “ENTER” again to install Windows on the New (Raw) Partition you have created.
  • Format the partition using NTFS file system.
  • After format has completed, Windows will restart and setup will prompt you to boot from CD again. Ignore the message and let setup continue automatically.
  • Follow the next steps which will ask you to setup the system Time and Date, Network and enter a serial key, until setup finishes.
  • After setup has finished, Windows will restart and will welcome you for the first time; Microsoft Windows XP will have successfully been installed on your computer.

Help i have a dell inspiron 530s and all of a sudden my keyboard and mouse do not work on when the logo of windows comes on in start up nor the mouse or keyboard work but my keyboard works on f2 and f8...

Try restoring your system bios to factory default and this may fix your problem. If not- post again with results and we'll go from there.

Entering System Setup

Turn on your computer.

When the blue DELL logo is displayed watch for the F2 prompt to appear (black screen / white text).

Once this F2 prompt appears, immdiately press F2 .

The F2 prompt indicates that the keyboard has initialized and is detected. This prompt can appear very quickly. Watch for it to display as the screen powers up, and then press F2. If you press F2 before you are prompted, this keystroke will be lost. There is a small window of time to do this before Windows starts.
If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop. Then, shut down your computer and try again to enter setup. At setup check your bios version. It may need to be flashed (upgraded). Select load factory defaults to see if that will resolve your PCI issues.

Enter BIOS on boot

Hi,

According to the intel manual the key is F2

"The BIOS Setup program can be used to view and change the BIOS settings for the computer. The
BIOS Setup program is accessed by pressing the <F2> key after the Power-On Self-Test (POST)
memory test begins and before the operating system boot begins."

That is from the manual for the board, instead of reinstalling Windows you may as well just change the product key on one of the installations to your other copy.
