Uneven distribution of black ink resulting in poor quality printing. Color is not affected.

I've had a tough time describing my problem, but it seems like part of a roller isn't getting ink distributed onto it. If a roller made a full cycle onto the paper, maybe 30 degrees (of the 360 degree full circle) is not transferring any ink. This leads to about every 10th line not printing, or only partially printing. This is particularly problematic when I print checks. I've had the 7410 for a couple years, problem free, but I can't figure this one out. Changing ink cartridges has not helped. PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks for your interest.

In printing in Word the roller seems to miss every so often so that print is not solid even after replacement og ink cartridge

I have tried all the Maintenance steps to clean roller and print heads.

I am finding that when printing with black ink that the color is darker on the right side of the page than on the left.

  • ProticonJohn Dec 30, 2008

My printer was working fine and then started to print with heavy dark ink on the left side of the paper, almost blurry.

Colour printing is fine. Black ink is affected, every few lines are printing poorly. A white streak appears through the line, and several words are smeared or comepletely faded

Mine was leaving an "inverse blot", a place where the ink was missing. It was fixed by cleaning a shiny metal bar in the printing compartment with a damp cloth and then drying it with a dry one.

What type of printer is it and what Operating system are you using?

Things you can try would include uninstalling and reinstalling the printer as your printer driver or software could be corrupt. You might also try recalibrating your printer if you just replaced the ink. If these fail you might want to think about replacing the black ink if the print head is built into the cartridge (this is the case if the ink cartridge has metal contacts and the place where the ink comes out is the part that "touches" the paper)

I'm not quite satisfied with color and black tone. What settings would you recommend.

You do not say what exact model of printer you are using so any answer will be generic rather than specific.

Poor colour and black tone can be as a result of various factors:
1. Poor paper quality that you are printing on.
2. Poor ink or toner quality being used.
3. Use of Ink / Toner saving modes or software.
4. Worn or damaged printer components such as the fuser roll on a laser printer and other similar consumables with a limited page use life.
5. Poor quality content being printed, i.e. low quality images being printed at too high a print resolution.

My color inks are out of ink but still in the printer...i just replaced the black ink. when i try to print, it will not allow me and says to replace the color inks first. i followed the instructions to...

The Lexmark Impact S305 printer requires all the cartridges to have ink in them to continue printing - even if you're printing using black ink only. To print true black, you actually use some of the color ink.
Note: Leaving the color cartridge empty or dry isn't good for the printer. It can lead to poor print quality if you want to print color in the future.

Poor print quality

The "ghost" image is "burned" onto the drum.

A laser printer is supposed to charge specific "dots" on the drum, and the toner-ink is supposed to stick only to those "dots", the paper is pressed against the drum, and then the "fuser" uses heat to "melt" the toner-ink onto the paper, to produce the printed page.

You need to replace the drum.

clean the print head 3 times, then realign the head .these are done by printer utility software given with the printer.

Print clarity

Check the print result by using Ink Management -> Testpage. After printing the test page, you'll get questions about the print quality, answer them and perform the cleaning after the questions. Repeat this process up to five times, which should solve the problem.

Poor and inconsistent quality from the black ink.

the problem seems to be un-even distribution of ink. try a different and new ink cartridge. Since you are refilling the cartridge, the ink inside of the cartridge is getting magnetized, there by, the ink stick to the drum of the cartridge and don't distribute the ink evenly. shake would clear it. you need to demagnetized the drum.

Brother MFC-440CN won't print color

Did you use generic carts?

Do use only original brother ink carts!
Only these have special cleaning fluids mingled with the ink.

There are several advantages, too:

You can run a special cleaning mode (DO insert original carts at first!!!)

Press menue then start bk copy then fourtimes arrow-up.
machine should switch to maintenance mode (buttons will flash).
press 7 then 6 then 4 then start bk copy. machine will refresh ink within the tubes and the print head and run a special cleaning routine. when finished press 7 then 6 then 3 then start bk copy to run a power cleaning. leave the maintenance mode by pressing 9 then 9.

The machine should print without proböems. If there is a poor quality left, the printhead is affected by bad ink and cant be fixed anymore.
