This kind of problem - continuous black lines - is usually caused by a speck of grit or dirt on the scanner head. The dirt is immobile in relation with the head, so the latter "sees" black wherever it goes. It's possible that the head is damage, but that is a very rare occurrence indeed, while dust is far more frequent.

You need to remove the protective glass (be careful when releasing the lock, and use gloves if possible - fingerprints may be inconvenient to remove; use solvent-free window cleaning fluid and a little water, in case) and clean the head using compressed air and a soft, lint-free cloth. Then reassemble.

In some models - don't know about the G2410 though - it is also possible to reach the head from two small openings on the sides of the platen glass. You launch a scan, so that the head moves from its resting position until it's nearest the openings. Then unplug the power, thus marooning the head in a reachable position. Most compressed air cans come with a thin straw which will allow you to reach the head without opening the scanner (and voiding the warranty, more often than not). CAREFUL not to invert the air can: the white spray of freezing liquid (it's not really "air") coming out from an inverted air can may damage or permanently stain the scanner head. If the grit is visible and the opening large enough, you may even be able to arrange its removal with a long thin wooden skewer or even a drinking straw.

How to increase scanning speed in hp scanjet g2410

Install the drivers for it from the HP website. Other software for it should be there as well. As to scanning speed, setting it to scan at lower resolutions can speed scanning. Scanning for color is slower than scanning for Black and White, FYI.

How to scan in hp scanjet g2410

First install the required drivers for the HP Scanjet G2410 Flatbed Scanner.
Simple way is to scan is use PICASA

GOTO http://picasa.google.com/
Download picasa 3.8
  1. Make sure everything is connected and turned on!
  2. Put the photo on the glass of the scanner - face down
  3. In Picasa, click 'Import'
  4. Click the arrow for the drop down list of devices. You should see your scanner listed ... select it
  5. Now you will see a screen that depends on your scanner. There should be an option to 'Preview'. Click that.
  6. You should now see your picture, there may be some settings you want to change here, but if it looks OK then
  7. Click the button to Scan
  8. When it's done scanning, you're back at the standard Picasa Import screen. Click Import all.
  9. Select a folder to put it in. I made a folder called 'Old Photos' for the first one, then, for each subsequent scanned photo, I selected that existing folder from the drop-down list.

This might be a hardware problem, but it could also be caused by an outdated (or corrupted) driver; you could uninstall the original driver, then download and install the newest version directly from HP here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&product=446435&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

If that link is broken, or doesn't work for you, use this one:

Also, I've copied the following information directly from the HP 4850 Scanjet user's manual:

If you have the HP Image Zone software installed, you can use the onscreen Help to solve other problems with the scanner. To gain access to the Help, open HP Solution Center, click Help, and then click HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner Help. The Help system provides information about the HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner hardware as well as information about the HP Image Zone and HP Scanning software itself. Also, see Scan troubleshooting in the general Troubleshooting and support section of the Help.

Good luck with this; let us know what you learn...
