I'm not sure what happened to my mp3 player but I keep trying to turn it on and all I see is a black screen. It was just fine that morning and over the course of the day the screen started to dim and ended with completely black. The blue light around the edge turns on and my computer recognizes it but I can't see any words. Does anyone know what the problem is?

This happens a lot with these units (not just insignia). The backlighting goes bad. The lcd probably works, but, because no light is going through, it just looks black. This happens a lot especially if they get wet (moist). Wrap them in plastic before going on a run. The good news is, these are inexpensive to replace on ebay.
What is happening when you turn the device on? Does it go on and then shut off? If so you will have to reformat the drive for the mp3 player. Simply plug the mp3 player in and click the drive that appears for the player. It should say this device needs to be formatted. Then just follow the steps. Keep in mind you will lost your songs. If the device stays on, do you see your first song on the list. If you do, try pushing the play button, (very last one on bottom) hard.
