Re: It runs, but no heat

I don't believe that is a heater because its a new machine.
You can get the parts at sears . com and search for parts.
If you open the botton plate of your dryer you gonna see at the right side the heater and screwed into the heater is a thermostat and a fuse.
Before replace the heater , make sure that your vent is cleaning otherwise its gonna blow again

How on earth can you get hot air or hot water from very cold outside air? How does a heat pump make this heat out of cold air?
When certain gases change their state from a liquid to a gas or from a gas to a liquid the magic happens.
A heat pump can do some pretty amazing things, when it comes to making heat. To understand the way they work, you must first understand what happens when certain gases change from a liquid state to a gas and back to a liquid again. To simplify it a bit we need to look at a basic air conditioning system. The refrigerant in an airconditioning system is changing to a liquid in the outdoor condenser. The compressor compresses the gas forming a hot gas. As this gas cools under high pressure it changes into a liquid form.
Inside the indoor coil the liquid is pushed through a small hole or orifice. When it comes out the other side it rapidly changes it’s state to a gas as the pressure suddenly drops. The rapid pressure drop changes the refrigerant to a very cold gas. Air flowing over the cold gas inside the pipes makes the air cool and provides air conditioning.
Now for a heat pump the process is much the same, only coils are just switched by used a reversing valve in the outdoor condenser unit. Instead of the heat being purged to the outside from the condenser unit, the indoor unit then becomes the condenser coil. The outdoor coil becomes the cold coil and cools the outside. This is why if it is very cold outside the unit will have to run in air conditioning mode for a short time to defrost the outside cold coil. When this happens the system will usually have electric heat inside to run and keep the indoor air warm.
The reality is that a heat pump is really no more than an air conditioner running in reverse. Through the magic of using refrigerants, a heat pump can then run many times more efficiently than straight electric heat. A careful heat loss/gain should always be performed by a qualified service person before any sizing of a unit. Too large or too small of a heat pump system can make it inefficient and possibly cause it to be very uncomfortable. The longevity of the unit can also be affected by sizing and installation. Be patient and look carefully for the best contractor to install your system.
A properly designed and installed heat pump system can give you many years of comfort and efficiency. If you look for and find the contractor that can do the job right you will get many trouble free comfortable years from your heat pump unit.
It sounds like you have a 'heat pump'?-- and you are trying to heat in these cold snaps-- when the outside temperature is down near freezing? If so-- Heat pumps do not work well that cold!-- so if your system was marginal at heating, when the outside air is 40 or 50 degrees F-- you quickly run out of 'heat' in the cold outside air, to move the refrigerant in the heat pump with any heat wrung out of the COLD-- to bring heat into your house! Make sense?

Find a reputable HVAC contractor to do a
room by room analysis with heat and cooling loads calculated and units
sized and duct requirements and compare to what you have.
The air not being cold is not necessarily an indicator of anything
malfunctioning. High efficiency units for instance don't produce cold
Since you have had someone look at it, the duct
work may be collapsed which restricts air flow or uninsulated which
warms up the supply air. Either one is a possibility. Any Cox Cable guys
been stompin' around your attic lately? Wouldn't be the first time.
Usually, when the air coming out of the vents is not cold enuf it's because your freon level is low. Probably leaking, but they can usually recharge the freon and it will work for a while. Try another repair company and see if they can recheck the freon level.
We have a high efficiency unit and it produces cold air, so I don't know what previous poster is referring to. Air conditioners are supposed to blow cold air.
Sorry, to tell ya but it is normal if the outdoor temperatures are much
below 45 degrees. Below 45 degrees there is little heat outdoors for the
heat pump to grab to heat the home so it will run 24/7 and blow cool or
cold air. Below 45 the temp of the air coming out the vent will decline
and you will get no heat from the heat pump itself as you near
Your emergency heat or auxiliary heat is electric strip heat. But it
only kicks in during normal operation if the temp in the house drops 3
degrees below the setting. (some tstats if can be 5 deg.) Otherwise the
heat pump will blow cool or cold air the rest of the time if it is too
To prevent it from running all the time and blowing cold it is
recommended if the temp outside is falling below 45 degrees you should
just switch to the emergency heat setting, which shuts the pump outdoors
off, and just heat with the electric.
But if there is no heat outside the heat pumps will blow cold. They are
the cheapest and most efficient forms of heat but only as long as the
outdoor temp is above that 45 deg..
I'm guessing that if you haven't experienced this you live in some place
with moderate winter temperatures like in Northern Florida and rarely
get very cold winter temps like the freezing you have seen there
It will likely blow much warmer when the outdoor temp rises.
The indoor fan will continue to run. When heat pump goes into defrost the outdoor fan stops, the reversing valve switches and the unit is basically working in the cooling mode. In order for you not to feel a blast of cold air in the winter the electric strip heat also comes on so the indoor fan must run while the strip heaters are on.
make sure the coils are clean run unit a bout 20 min take cover off and feel the lines on the compressor the big one should be cold and small hot feel top of compressor to make sure running
if big line not cold most likley freeon has leaked out if compressor not running low psi may have unit out look at the compacitor if swelled up bad hope this helps
I am experiencing a similar problem with my Mitsubishi slimline MSH09TW unit; about 4 years old; It use to give us very hot air now it is giving some what hot air; northeastern USA current temperature about 15F. You think frigid weather in Cranbury NJ could be responsible or some thing else is going on. Please help me if you have some time and knowledge about Mitsubishi heat pumps.
