Question about Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

I am having trouble with gunk/yuck in my F&P Smart drive, and I have tried cleaning it out, but the yuck is between the innre and outer bowl... I have tried to take out the bowl... I have done the following..... Unscrew plastic wingnut down the centre of the agitator.(2) undo 2 phillips head screws under little rubber covers just under lid at front top edge.(3)lift top of machine like a car bonnet, get someone to hold it up for you.(4)Unclip big round plastic ring on top of the bowl, you may find its attached with a spring at the front left hand corner, just lay the plastic ring over front of machine & let it hang. The bowl should just lift straight out. BUT it won't lift straight out... It lifts up about 2-3 cm and then stops.... do I need to undo something else??? any advise would be appreciated...

Drain the Bowl. This can either be done using the pump or emptying the bowl manually.
If there is a service hatch (Phase 1-4). Remove the front inspection panel by inserting a screw driver into the slot and turn anticlockwise 1/8 of a turn.
Pull outwards and remove. Flick starting the pump. Advance to SPIN and attempt to flick start the fan on the pump motor. This may alleviate the need to drain manually.

Check for foreign object by inspecting from above. Removing pump hood, cap and impeller.
Check for obstructed drain hose. Other Checks--
• Check pump hood, cap and impeller are the latest type.
• If the product is 5kg size, then check that a rain shield is fitted to the pump.
• Check that the four bolts securing the pump bracket are tight, torque 3 Nm.
• If the screw locating the pump hood is loose, torque 3 Nm, this can cause pump block error.
To remove the pump, turn it towards the front of Smartdrive until the locking tab prevents further turning, then release the locking tab by pulling it away from the pump. Continue to turn, the pump will disengage. When refitting the pump, making sure that the bayonet fixture is located correctly. Twist the pump away from the front of Smartdrive until the locking tab clicks into place.
NB: Approximately 1 litre of water remains in the pump sump after pump out and can spill out when the pump is removed. However by tilting Smartdrive past 45 degrees and blowing down the drain hose this can be alleviated. There is 230V AC at the pump terminals the whole time Smartdrive is switched on at the power point. Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

Your question is vague. What type of car/truck. More than likely it is a hub bearing. Outer CV joints make noise onlyaccelerating on turns. Inners are quite, but shake badly upon acceleration.

How do i get 2 glass bowls unstuck from each other?

Try running hot water over the outside bowl, on the outside only. This will expand the outer bowl & you should be able to separate the two items.
Kind Regards,

Is there a filter in the machine that \i should be cleaning as i keep getting black bits on the clothes?

The black bits are scum flaking off from between the inner & outer bowls, usually more common with cold water wash. Place old towel in washer, fill washer to high level with hot water, add washing soda & or vinegar, let washer run to end of wash cycle, turn off & let it soak for around an hour, turn back on & let it go through cycle. Commercial washing machine cleaning products should also be availably in your supermarket / hardware stores. You may need to repeat process until no more gunk comes out.

How to clean pump from fisher & pkal smart drive 708

FIRST - remove plug from wall, then open lid and remove the rubber bungs that the front of the lid sits on, under them is 2 screws, remove them. Lift the complete upper plastic portion and rotate back against the wall. Remove the screw from inside the agitator and remove the agitator completly. Remove the bowl top cover by unclipping it from around the outer edge all the way round, note the spring position for refitting, lift out the bowl top cover and set aside. Remove bowl, can be tricky but it should lift right out. With the bowl removed, remove the large phillips screw from the plastic cover over the pump, with the screw removed, the pump cover will pull out (up) and the pump can be cleaned out.
Make sure that you clean out the channels that the water flows through around the pump impellor. refit the pump cover, ensure the rubber ring is in correct position, and secure with the screw. Reassemble in reverse order.

Test the pump for operation before doing a full load.

Have trouble with fluf and soap residue on the washed clothing.our model number is fisher & paykel GW612. the serial # is MLA861459.

Through use a layer of gunk will build up on the inside of the outer bowl, especially if you regularly use fabric softener. This can generally be cleared by a couple large hot washes and kept at bay by putting a large hot wash through say... once a month.

Hope this helps

Need to clean hose.

I filled a bowl with hot bleach water and sucked the water up. It cleaned the hose pretty well (along with the gunk that was stuck in the hand wand). Mine was filthy. It looked like it had mold growing in it. Then I ran several rounds of hot water through the hose. I alternated hot water & bleach. Did this about 8 times. It is not perfect, but it sure does look a lot better. 90% of the gunk is gone.
