Question about Washing Machines

Both Shock absorbers broke because of a heavy load and after I replaced them, the washer does not spin. Is there some type of a default in the system where the spinning circuit is broken when the shocks break.

    Macmarkus,
The problem was that the tub had knocked against a large connector in the upper right had corner of the washer. I reconnected it and it works. It was one of your clues which guided me in the right position.

    Thanks, Howard

There is nothing the shocks have to do with the operation of the machine.
You may need to check the wiring to the motor or the direct drive unit on the back of the tub, make sure that there are no breaks or cuts in the wiring.
you drain pump could also have been damaged and this will cause the drum to stop spinning.

Hi, Let me ask you first if the washer appears all ok aside from spinning ? It fills, locks & rotates in both directions ? Another helpful tip would be to provide the make and model number. If it does rotate both ways but yet won't spin even when locked, you possibly knocked the door latch assembly, loosened a wire or damaged it and likely need a new door latch. Let me know and we can go forward from here.

Frequent out of balance problem

All front-load washing machines have shock absorbers that are used to dampen the tub movement in the spin cycle. The shock absorbers or struts are attached to the base frame and to the outer tub and you will need to remove the front panel or the rear panel to access them. When shock absorbers weaken or become damaged, the machine will often make a loud banging sound during the spin cycle and if the symptom is not corrected, can lead to damage of other components. Inspect the shocks for signs of broken attachments, leaked fluids or a weakened dampening action and replace both shocks if worn. Remove power from the appliance before attempting this repair.

Washer Problems Washer noise when spinning

With the growing popularity of front load washers comes a whole different set of washer problems then what was experience with the older top load washers. Front load washers are built quite a bit differently and have many different parts than top load machines.

One of the most common problems with front load washers is that the shock absorbers that hold the tub in place can break. These shock absorbers steady the tub during the wash and spin cycles. It is when the spin is happening that they take the worst beating. It is also during the spin cycle that the breakage will be most evident. If your load is even a little bit out of balance and the shocks are broken, you machine may dance all over the floor and sound like an airplane about to take off. The tub will flounder around uncontrollably and the clothing will come out very wet because of the tubs inability to maintain the spin speed needed to wring out the water.

To see if your machine has broken shock absorbers, remove the bottom cover and look in. About halfway back on either side will be a small cylinder that moves in and out to absorb the movement of the tub. Often the loop that has a pin through it to secure it to the machine will be broken. Sometimes there will be no visible damage, but if you unhook one end of the shock, the slide movement will be very easy and there will be no resistance. The shock should be in and out fairly hard; this is what holds and steady’s the tub of the machine.

The parts are easy to find online by doing a search for “appliance parts” and then entering your model number in the box provided by most websites. The replacement is fairly easy and can be done by most people with a bit of patience and a few hand tools.

Could be bad shock absorbers. Google that washer model number, and at the same time shock absorbers, and see if it has them. If it does, I bet their broke. Ebay 10 - 30 bucks. easy fix. Good luck

My front loading washer will not give a high speed spin out. It shuts off at the 7 minute mark

There are two things you can look at that are common problems for this type of model. One is on older Frigidaire front loaders the shock absorbers tended to break, you can remove the front panel and view both shocks, look for a end of the shock broke off. Second is check the trap for the water pump, have a towel for the water. The replacement shocks are better........and most front loaders will not spin if the pressure switch is not open(water pumped out) The remaining problems are electrical, reconnect your connectors on the electrical harness and board or timer, figure out tech sheet or call the service company......(unplug when doing any service)
hope this help

Because front load washers are VERY HEAVY, they shake if you have a wooden floor. If your front loader sits on concrete and it still shakes, then you have to make sure all is balanced. If it still shakes, then inside the system there are shock absorbers that need to be checked.

If you access the bottom panel you can see the shocks mounted from the base of the machine to the tub. you will need to take the top panel off and you can see the springs the are mounted about 1/2 way in at the top and connect to the to off the tub
