Question about MTX Thunder 1501D Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

Lost... I have a MTX 1501d which is the same as the 81000d but different chassis. I have sufficient power source- 1/0 gauge wire and 2 farad Rockford Fosgate capacitor power. The amp powers on perfectly and produces sound, but only when frequency, EQ, and gain is turned all the way up, or at least halfway up. Even then, w/ all three 100% up, it only produces weak power- maybe a cpl hundred watts. Of course at that point, not only does it sound horrible, but it's nothing near as loud as it should be. When the frequency and EQ knobs are both all the way down... the gain doesn't provide any difference in power. With these three controls turned down, you only feel current going through subs, but no sound, and then when you get close to the halfway point of turning them all up, it kicks on somewhat, but never reaches full potential..... can anyone help please?! email ~ campbell46947@yahoo.com

The 1501 is very similar to the 81000 but there are important differences. The 1501 is a better amp.

If you turn the gain up and down, does the woofer move in and out in direct relation to the rotation of the gain?

What do you mean by "you only feel current going through subs"?

MTX Thunder 81001 wont push subs

first of all you should check the minimal impedance your amp handles , if is class d it should handle between 1-2 ohms total impedance in a mono conection , meaning whatever quantity of subs you have hooked to your amplifier, their total impedance should the minimum the amp handles that way all the power from your amplifier will be used.

I own a mtx 1501d.Also own a 18

THE AMPLIFIER NEEDS A 1 OHM LOAD AND YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SPEAKER TO PROVIDE THIS LOAD. THE AMPLIFIERS TERMINAL STRIP PROVIDES YOU WITH 2 POSITIVES AND 2 NEGATIVES, BUT THEY ARE ONLY FOR CONVENIENCE WHEN WIRING 2 DRIVERS. ACTUALLY THE 2 POSITIVES ARE THE SAME CONNECTION INTERNALLY ON THE BOARD, AS WELL AS THE 2 NEGATIVES. THAT BEING SAID, THE SIMPLEST WAY TO CONNECT YOUR SPEAKER IS TO PARALLEL THE VOICECOILS IN THE BOX BY CONNECTING THE 2 POS. TOGETHER AND THE 2 NEG. TOGETHER THEN RUN THAT POS. AND NEG. OUT OF THE BOX AND SIMPLY CHOOSE EITHER OF THE 2 POS AND NEG. OF YOUR CHOICE AT THE AMP. IF YOU EVER HAVE TO ADD A SUB, THEN YOU WILL HAVE 2 MORE TERMINAL LEFT OVER ON THE AMP. TO CONNECT IT TO AT THAT TIME. BY ALL MEANS, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO RUN EACH COIL SEPARATELY OUT OF THE BOX AND CONNECT THEM TO ALL 4 TERMINALS, THEN THIS IS FINE TOO, AS EITHER WAY, THERE WILL BE NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER. LET ME KNOW IF I CAN BE OF FURTHER ASSISTANCE....V

I have a mtx thunder 81000d amp i need to know if i can bridge it

Hello frank_sadach,

"Bridging" connects 2 amp channels to one output. The MTX 81000d is a single channel amp so it cannot be bridged.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I have a MTX Thunder 81000D and there's something burned, it is the component with next to it the number d198, does anyone knows which one it is? THANX

D198 is a diode. It burns when the amp loses the chassis ground connection and the amp tries to ground through the RCA shield. If the amp is still working, it's better to leave that diode out of the circuit. That's what MTX did on later models.

Mtx 1501d no sound

There are a number of things that can cause it to act as you described. Have you pulled the covers off of it yet to see if you can see any problems?

If you do, disconnect power from it and don't touch ANYTHING on the board when ANY of the 3 LEDs (2 are not visible from the outside) are lit.

Clueless..!

You either are suffering from phase problems with the way you have your subs wired or you fried them and just don't realize it. I sell the TE1501D and these amps are not poorly made, they are however too powerful (1500+ @ 1ohm) for most subs on the market to handle continiously.
