I had this problem a few days ago. I connected it to a computer that was running Ubuntu 7.1 and just deleted every file on the thing. Unfortunately this will not leave you with a functioning mp3 played, but if someone would please upload the files off of their working one it would.

Another thing i did after that was copy the files off another mp3 player over to the cleared one, but I as not sure if that really made a difference as the mp3 player that was cleared started up perfectly. I really hate this GoGear and I sold it to my friend for $25 because i just wanted to get rid of it.
I suggest you just do a quick wipe of the player, then try to start it up, and if not oh well, its not like it was anymore useful starting up and restarting over and over.
Then I suggest you head to your nearest store that sells mp3 players, bring a lighter with you. As you are about to enter the store light the goGear on fire and toss it in a trash can, make sure it doesnt burn the place down, and then go in and buy a new one of a different brand.

On the left side of the player below the hold button is a hole labeled rmoz-screenshot.pngeset. insert an unbent paper clip until the unit shuts down (Blank Screen). Then press the play/pause key until unit lights up.

If this fails, the firmware of your GoGear may be corrupted.
  1. Make sure that your computer is online and connecting to the Internet. Launch the Firmware Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Firmware Manager on your PC
  2. Connect your GoGear to the computer while pressing & holding the 051104154033_4112.gif key until the Firmware Manager recognize the GoGear and a dialogue box pop up in recover mode.
  3. Click Start to confirm and start recovering the unit to its factory setting
IMPORTANT: All music & content of your GoGear Player will be erased once the factory setting is restored.
  4. Follow all screen instructions and click Finish at the end to complete the recovery.
  5. The Firmware manager will close automatically once the success message is displayed. Close all opened application and then safely remove your GoGear by clicking on the EJECT HARDWARE icon in your task tray bar. When prompted, "The USB Mass Storage Device can now be safely removed from the system", click OK and unplug your micro jukebox.

I have a phillips go gear MP3 player and when i turn it on it freezes only the words www.phillips/welcome.com screens shows. how to i fix this?

Hello

Your GoGear is freezing because there is an error in the operating system and can be fixed by resetting the device. Resetting the GoGear is similar to rebooting your computer. You will not lose any of the data uploaded to the device. To reset the GoGear, press the "Reset" button located on the left of the device. The screen will go blank for a few seconds and then turn back on.

If the GoGear freezes after uploading a file to the device or if one song or sound file freezes the device each time you play it, the file is likely corrupt and needs to be removed from the GoGear. Connect the GoGear to a computer and delete the file from the device.

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear:

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

Update the firmware, but it will erase all your songs in the process, so they will have to be reloaded.

Philips GoGear Firmware Upgrade
You need to get the latest firmware upgrade from the Philips website:
1. Go to www.philips.com/support
2. Enter your country/language
3. Enter your model # SA1333 or whatever
4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it)
5. Click on "Software & Drivers"
6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager"
7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager
8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course)
9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically
If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Manager installed (the latest is the version from the Philips website), then clicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "The firmware on your device is already up to date."

Reset the player first. If it still occurs, then go to the Philips Device Manager, and attempt both the Repair and the Update (Warning: this will delete all songs off your player). If you do not have the Philips Device Manager, rerun your installation Cd or grab the Device Manager from the Philips website. If it still fails:

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in.
