You should have returned it under warranty...

It depends on where the leak is from. Steam irons often drip some water from the soleplate steam holes but an internal leak could have potentially serious electrical safety implications. If the water appears to be leaking from between the upper plastic part and the soleplate you should not use the iron until it has been properly repaired.
