Question about Delta Faucet Plumbing

1 Answer

Can you actually remove a diverter from the spout without taking the spout off? When the diverter is lifted up only a little bit of water comes out of the shower and the rest continues to come out of the tub spout. I don't have the model # but it appears to be a Delta tub spout.

Hi,
No often the problem is that the metal deteriorates inside of the spout...
Replace the whole spout... it will either spin off or there will be a small setscrew underneath at the back and then it will pull off...a new one is not that exspensive...

do you have to shut off the water supply before unscrewing the spout ? (or is just having the handles turned off enough ?)

Check the basement. There may be a valve (two valves) that someone partially closed in the past to limit how much water was used for a bath.

You should also have a diverter in the spout. Just turn the old spout off and turn the diverter spout on. You lift the ball on top to use the shower.

Little water comes out my shower head when I take a shower, should I call a plumber, or is this something that I can fix myself?

remove the shower head. and if the water flows normal, its a clogged up shower head. if takeing a shower and the diverter valve goes bad. water will come out of the spout. check out shower head to see if its clogged. sometimes you can soak the head in a good cleaner and it helps it. but if its the showerhead thats plugged. you can always put a new one on also. good-day !

Contact A/S via web site they will probably send you a new diverter free if you raise enough stink about having this problem and you would just buy another brand faucet.

Is there a button on the tub filler? How about the spout on the tub, does it lift up? If there is not a tub spout then it should be shower only, if it has a tub spout it has to have a lifter of some sort, the foto I found showed the little button lifter. Hope this helps.

Need to know how diverter works and which way insert in same shou

Hi,

When you pull on the handle a flap or little valve blocks the flow of water to the spout, making it run to the shower head
Long story short, since I've spent the entire day at different hardware stores, and websites looking for the answer, and figured it out... before taking the advice of so many and replacing the entire spout..
The little black rubber washer is the value. When water pressure pushes against the hole, it actually pushes this black valve out just enough to stop the water from flowing, and the water flows to the shower head. If water is pouring out, try cleaning this black valve with toothpaste, as someone on another website recommended, and reinsert the valve. But don't push it all the way in. Water need to get behind this valve in order to function properly.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Pull down shower diverted works, but allows bypass into tub

The diverter is supposed to leak a little bit, so it will disengage after you turn off the water. If the water is leaking out a little, that's normal. But if it is really leaking out you may need to replace the entire spout.

Sprayer loosing presure

If you have a Delta faucet your diverter may need to be replaced. The diveter is located under the spout (see diagram)

Here are the instructions:

  1. Turn off water to faucet.
  2. Remove handle.
  3. Remove top cap.
  4. Turning spout back and forth gently lift and remove.
  5. Remove and replace diverter.
Hope this helps and please remember to rate this!
