Question about Canon Video Cameras

1 Answer

I have a Canon FS200 which has worked well for the past 2 years. It has an automatic lens cover - which open when the power is turned on, and closes when the power is turned off. Now, when I power it on, the lens cover will not open. I can pull it down with my fingers, but it goes back up when I let it go - there's no catch to hold it in place. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The lens cover mechanism is assembled and controlled from within the camera. It will need to be disassembled to repair. This can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

The lens cover mechanism in these cameras is susceptible to debris and requires disassembling the camera to repair. This can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem due to the fact that the camera will need to be partially disassembled and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Sony HDR-XR200 lens cover problem

You have two options, replace the motor that opens and closes the lens cover or remove the lens cover shutters all together, and use a 30mm lens cap.

The lens cover does not open or close completely. just started happening. the camera is 2 years old and the battery is fully charged

A stuck lens cover is a fairly common problem, but it is normally easy to fix. A single grain of sand jamming the cover mechanism is normally the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it: 1) Try blowing lots of compressed air around the lens cover to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Use no heat mode if possible. 2) Slide a thin strip of paper between the lens cover shutters and the outer support ring. Work it around 360 degres to clear out any debris that may be in there. 3) With the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. Repeat the above three steps several times. If repeated tries don't work (keeping in mind that it usually does), it then may be necessary to open the lens barrel to access the lens cover mechanism.

You can open the lens barrel up to fiix the covers, but only as a very last resort. The above procedures normally work if you try them enough. But for those particularly nasty stuck mechanisms, here's an example repair on a Canon Powershot A400 (do this at your own risk, and it will void your warranty).

Lens cover will not close

YES, BUT THAT IS A JOB THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE PROFESSIONALLY, DUE TO THE ALIGNMENT OF THE LENSES AND THE POWER DRIVE FEATURES. IF YOU GOOGLE CANON POWERSHOT A620 REPAIR SERVICE, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A PRICE QUOTE BEFORE YOU SEND THE CAMERA IN FOR REPAIR. IS IT JUST THE COVER THAT NEEDS REPLACED OR THE LENS? THE COVER MIGHT JUST NEED TO BE CLEANED GOOD WITH AIR TO START WORKING AGAIN? WORTH A TRY. IF I CAN HELP MORE, REPLY TO:
