This will depend on what process you got with the system. If you have a 64 bit process then you will be able to install Windows 7 64 bit just fine. The only issue will if you switch over to a 64bit OS is you will not be able to upgrade you will have to do a fresh install of Windows 7.

If you are not sure if you have a 64 bit process with your system let me know what your service tag is and I can look up what your system orginally shipped with.

No you cannot install 64-bit OS on a 32-bit machine. To see system type, right-click my computer and choose Properties. Look under system type. Thats the only type of OS it supports.

You will need to change both the processor and the motherboard (that supports the 64-bit processor). In intel Itanium and Xeon are based on 64-bit architecture. Xeon processor starts at around 120$ and the motherboard starts at about 150-200$.

  • snow441 Aug 31, 2010

You may correct me, but the processor I have is Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 CPU 4300@ 1.80GHz 1.79GHz I beleive will support 64bit and that I should only change the motherboard, is this true.

Ok, checked out the specs . Yes your processor is indeed 64-bit. Your motherboard has the socket PGA478. So it does support 64-bit. You can install 64-bit OS without any problems.

To contiue with the second question. My Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 CPU supports both 32 and 64bit OS and is supported by my E210882 Motherboard, you say the motherboard will support both 32and 64bit OS. Is this correct. I am lead ot beleive it only supports 32bit. Please be patient with me, I only want to sure before I do anything.

Switched a vista hd to a xp hd and windows will not open

You can't do that, it just won't work. A hard drive with XP installed on it will be unrecognizable to a PC with vista already installed on it. You can either backup your XP drive by putting it into a compatible XP computer. Or you can buy on of these, which are handy. This let's you get the data to your new PC thru a USB connection.

Hi, I have Inspiron 1545 and I've installed the windows vista home premium 32 bit, but the OS could not detect the Dell Bluetooth Module. Is there any solutions to this problem ?

Try to download the bluetooth driver from the Dell Support website. Go to www.support.dell.com and enter the service tag, which you can find in the bottom of the computer. It will list all the available drivers. Find the bluetooth driver for the computer for the particular OS (in your case Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit), then download and install it. Restart the computer. It should be working.

I just bought a new Dell running 64-bit Vista Home Premium. My problem is, when trying to install my printer, it says the drivers are not compatible with the 64-bit operationg system. The Dell website has...

Contact the Printers Manf. or go to its web site for drivers.
If that fails, you may want to daul boot with a 32bit system.
Also, you may want to Gogle the printer for a 64bit driver.

Dell Dimension E520 Network problem

Can the computer connect to the router, but not to the internet? If so you have a router configuration problem. If you can't connect to the router then you have a cable or a NIC problem, or the computer is mis-configured.

Ethernet Controller

Hi

E210882 is a number found on more than one Dell System Board. Dimension 8400 and 4600 come to mind. Possibly there are more. Secondly, E210882 is not a Dell Part number (DP/N or DS/N). While Dimension 8400 is a 775 socket, Dimension 4600 is a 478 socket. So they don't fall to the same family.

In any case the network controllers used on Dell System Boards are Intel and Broadcom.

To proceed, at least provide/confirm the system model. If this is not available, give the Dell Part Number.
