Question about Computers & Internet

Open Question

Model: Sony Vaio VGC-LT15E. OS: Win Vista (replaced Home premium(factory) for Ultimate I'm having issues with some drivers). Problem: Display has green dots and lines at start up (at phoenix banner), then tiny white stripes when loading windows, sometimes screen goes crazy with blue dots making impossible to see anything at all. In safe mode is okay, but resolution is terrible. I've reinstalled the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT driver, but that just didn't work. Is it the video memory, or the video card, is my computer f..ed up? Please, I'd apreciate any piece of advice before taking it to a repair shop, since the warranty expired since long time ago.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: vaio vgn-sz430n upgrade to Win 7 from Vista

Yea, should not have a problem, but i do believe you will need to get the Nvidia drivers for windows 7. However, that should not be the case, when i did an upgrade I didn't need the drivers, I got them any way, so I will recommend to go to Nvidia website and get the drivers for the video card you have.

It is not a driver failure but it is a hardware failure. I have my own fz340e and have the same problem as yours. Now, my fz340e works fine.

SOURCE: When I get to my

HI There,

I'm a full-time laptop repair techYou've done some great troubleshooting on your own. Your problem is almost certainly a failing video card, and hopefully your laptop model (not given here), has this video card as discrete ( meaning not soldered to the mainboard but replaceable as a plug-in part). If it is, replacing the video card will have you running fine assoon as it's replaced.

If it's soldered to the mainboard, you may have to either send the laptop to a repair specialist with the equipment enabling a replacement, or replace the motherboard itself.

A small favor? If you decide this post is "Moderately Helpful", please don't check 2 thumbs up. It reduces my rating for trying to help. I'd as soon have none.

Thanks,

Marcus

Need to upgrade Vaio FW235J from Vista to Vista Ultimate

Vista drivers are Vista drivers. As long as you are not doing anything regarding the 32-bit/64-bit line, everything should work fine. The 32-bit Vista driver model doesn't change with the specific flavor of Vista. The same thing with the 64-bit version. So if the drivers work in the 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium, they will also work unchanged in the 32-bit version of Vista Ultimate. And if you are doing an in-place upgrade, you don't need to even try to reinstall the drivers anyway.
