Question about Sony KDF-E50A10 50 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

Sparkly halo around edges

Especially white edges. Doesn't happen right away, but after the tv is warmed up for an hour or more. Happens with both dvds and regular programming, thought it might be a cable, but it happens with either. We just had the light engine replaced. TV is about 20 months old. Any ideas?

This is caused by speakers being too close to the TV. Try moving your entertainment speakers away from the TV. If this was the problem, the halo will go away in about a week.

Red discoloration coming across the television

The Y-Sustain PCB is Failing.

It will require replacing soon.

The PCB does have some adjustment pots on it, if you were to take the TV to a repairer they may be able to "adjust" the halo effect out.

But the board will still fail.

My tv is ok then in a few minutes the picture gets line down the middle od screan then on the left side picture gets distored then the right side then it getl like black and white bar code on it help its...

at a month old you dont want to be poking around in it so try and take it back, But if you want to take it apart?? try the gpu panel as it is the screen that is getting the problem try using the model number on the board to find a replacement., as these get really hot that could have caused the problem. Or you could leave it on a picture with no input going to it for about 15 mins and see what happens if it does not do it then it might be something else, but whilst trying this the tv can warm up.. then try a picture and see if wi works with the tv warmed up.

White sparkly spots on screen

Dynex is a brand from BB which is very very poor for parts. It does have a problem, I would return it for a refund and look for a name brand. If I can be of any other help in your search for another one, please let me know.

Vertical yellow line on screen

The only thing I would do is make sure it does it on all sources so you can verify it is the TV causing the issue. It'll just save you time on the phone with the service center.

Picture quality

Hello - it's called burn-in and is a common problem with Plasma TVs. It happens around the 3 year mark. Later models from Hitachi have a white-wash option which can wipe the screen free from blurred marks etc. Have a look in your manual to see if this feature is available in your TV. If not, and you have a video camera, you can replicate the effect by filming a white sky or something similarly bright and white, then playing it through your TV and pausing the plainest, whitest shot you have. You'll need to keep this showing for around 24 hours. It's important that it is completely white, as if any of the film has a dark dot or mark, this will add to your burn-in problem. It's a bit of a long work-around, but it does work. Bear in mind that as your screen ages the problem will return at some stage. LCD displays don't suffer from this problem so that's something to bear in mind when the time comes to replace your TV. I hope that helps :o)
