Well lets start off with how long have you owned the nintendo wii? have you owned it for a few years? or is it new and still under warranty? When you do play the wii how long do you generally play it for? Do you own a nintendo Wii lens cleaner and if so have you tried it?
Now if you can please answer these questions even though some may seem obvious it will help us in being able too diagnose the problem and then either help you fix it or from there figure out whats wrong so it can be fixed. I am a nintendo WII repair expert and have helped many people with this problem, So the issue is well within my abilities. So please follow up with a comment on the above questions. Generally i would say yes you can but its not always a sure thing if they have them in stock. Good places to check locally are like Gamestop's or gamecrazy 2nd hand video game stores, Walmarts will generaly have them and Best buy. Best thing to do is call them and ask them if they have it. From doing a google shopping search it says online best buy does carry the nintendo wii lens cleaning kit. Be sure to buy the nintendo one as in my experience the 3rd party lens cleaning kits never work as good as nintendos. Online the price is about 10 dollars.

So this should be my next step before anything else?

Cause the wii can get dust in there but that wouldnt effect your problem. First you should try to clean the lens with a nintendo approved cleaning kit. From there depending on if it works. Is to listen to see if the disk is spinning or if the motor in the disc drive has failed. Which does happen around now. This usually can happen if game discs where always left in the drive. As Nintendo states this may cause more strain on the drive. So lets try the cleaning kit when you can get it and we can go from there. Let me know if you have any other questions till then. Thanks, Midwest-tek

to add to your comment yes it should be your next step. As crazy as it sounds but it could just be a dusty lens. In my experiences in repairing wii consoles they never usually have to much dust inside the unit just the lens.

I guess i misworded my self. When i said the we can get dust in there but thats not the problem. I meant the wii cannot get dust usually inside the units cooling fan like a computer. It can but this never is really much of a problem. Hope thats not too confusing. Thanks, Midwest-tek

Also i should note that the lens cleaner may not solve the problem of the unit if the disc drive has failed. If the disc drive has failed there are very few things you can do. You would be able to replace the disc drive yourself. Pay Nintendo to replace the disc drive (but that costs as much as buying a new wii or just short of that cost). You pay a online repair company to repair the unit or sell it to one of these companies and use that cost to purchase a new wii console. Just keep all of your games controllers and everything and just sell the console with the failed drive. It only costs about 50$usd-80$usd to replace the d2b dvd drive in the WII. An its really not all that hard to do if that is the case. Hardest part is taking the Wii apart. Then the disc drive itself is only 2 wires. But as i said lets get the lens cleaner and cross your fingers and see what happens from there. Thanks, MIDWEst-Tek

Is the disk dirty or scratched? This error commonly occurs when a damaged disk is unable to be read by the system. If your other games work, then the cause is likely the disk.

I have the same problem i try two diferent disc y nothing happen. same error . i dont think is my wii console.

If the Wii is having trouble with a disk, it means there's either a problem with the disk or the Wii. If your Wii can't read any disks then you'll want to contact Nintendo. Otherwise you need to investigate your disk.

If you hold the bottom side of the disk to the light you should be able to see if there's a smudge or scratch. If it's a smudge, cleaning the disk will often fix the problem. I like to use the microfiber cloths used to clean eyeglasses or, short of that, a tissue. Just rub the smudged spot. (When using a tissue I generally steam up the spot with my breath first.) If the disk looks good, put it back into the Wii and see what happens.

A scratch is more problematic. If it's a game you just bought, try exchanging it where you bought it. Otherwise you can try polishing out the scratch.

Some older Wii units also have trouble with dual layer discs, which pack more info onto a disk (Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime use dual layer discs). If your Wii is having trouble reading a dual layer disc you can try Nintendo's Wii lens cleaning kit. If all fails and still you Wii cant read any disk it only means that the Wii is malfunctioning.

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. When i put games into the wii it will say it cant read disk

I've had the same problem. It was only happening once in a while, but now all of my games are doing it at some point. I get either "can not read disc" or "error, please eject disc turn off power and consult owner's manual". It is also making a buzzing or off balance sound like something may be loose inside. I bought special optical cloths to clean the discs before insertion and it did not help. I could not find a fix for it so, luckily, it is still under the extended warranty so, I sent it in. It has been about a week now and it says online that it is "completed". I assume that it will be shipping back to me soon. I'll repost if that did not fix it.

Console problem

I'm having the same issue. Doesn't matter what game disk is in, after a little while of playing, the screen goes black with the message that disk can not be read. Eject disk and power off, then power back on and re insert disk. No error code is given. I just bought this console yesterday and this error has happened probably 10 times already. Wanted to get online and see if this was a common wii problem or I just possible got a bad one.

Error when playing games

Hello Wii player10,

I would first ask if this is happening on every disc, I have heard of selected cases where the drives stop responding, but if you contact Nintendo they are more then happy to help you get it replaced under your warranty. If not, you may want to try to backup your game data from the Wii and restore the unit.

I hope this helps.
