It could be a corrupted driver. You can download one from HP's suppoort site:
It could be that the dvd laser is weakening, or out of adjustment. Here is the procedure for adjusting it:
I assume you've cleaned the lens, if not, make sure it's clean. A dvd burns faster than a cd, and it could be slightly dirty.
