Just purchased a Panasonic sound bar and Samsung tv. The sound bar is hissing at low vol from one end. Should I return to the shop or is there a setting issue?

I would check your cable connections. If you are using an analog Red & White connection flip the red and white connections and see if the hissing sound changes to the other end of the sound bar. If it does then try new cables.
If you are using a 3.5 mm Stereo headphone plug then try a new cable and see if the hissing vanishes.

If the hissing doesn't change then take the soundbar back it is likely a defect in the internal wiring., either bad grounding or a short in the wiring.

Have a phiips tv had it in storage for over a year turned it on an the screen working perfectly but there a hising noise coming from the back of it do no what it is... Its a big bk tv not flat screen box...

hissing noise will be from high voltage regulator, i would suggest to do following:

1. switch tv off
2. remove plug from the wall
3. using air blower (compressor attachment - not leaf one!) blow the dust, especially from high voltage box section
4. connect the tv and switch on

if tv still issue hissing noise - follow 1 and 2 then:
3. remove back cover
4. use air blower again...
5. re-install back cover
6. reconnect tv and switch on

if hissing noise persist - check for blown capacitors on high voltage, replace if necessary, they have nasty tendency to pop if they are too long in storage, especially if tehy were overheated or frozen.

hope this will help you solve the problem, do not forget to vote...

Cant get my 14" Craig TV to work anymore.

Check the connection at the back of the TV. During moving, any of them might got loose. Check it. As the TV has snow and hissing sound, there is no fault with it. The fault must be to the cable or antenna connections.

HISS from Numark DM1200 mixer. Not present in speakers (self powered) when mixer off. Using XLR cables with telescoping ground lifts on each line. Monster 3500 power filter. Ideas?

All interconnected equipment MUST be powered from the same receptacle or source. The XLR to the speakers should NOT have ground lift. The power for the mixer should come from where the speakers are and be routed alongside the XLR cables. All the other connected items should also be powered by the same source. The ground bounce within a building cannot only cause noise, but can rupture the input circuits of equipment. As an electrical engineer I don't know why manuals supplied with the equipment doesn't go into this more. The professionals at the big venues all know this as they have had to pay to get equipment repaired.

Now to get down to "hiss" once you get the other stuff straightened out, there are two things to know at the start: The first is that due to the statistical nature in electronics "noise and hiss" are among the laws of physics that we can't completely get around. The level of the hiss should NOT be objectionable however. The second thing is that proper level setup is important to minimize the effects of noise and hiss. You should be sending the levels to the powered speakers at near full line level into the line inouts, never mic inputs that some have. Using excess gain at the speakers will amplify any noise pickup on your audio lines. Next, at the mixer, try to keep all the level controls around 10 to 2 0'clock for rotaries and 70% for faders. Excess gain at certain stages will cause hiss to be objectionable.

There is a hissing noise in back of tv and picture goes on and off zenith d36d51

Hissing noise and picture on and off means faulty flyback transformer, it has a small crack and voltage is leaking out, replace the flyback, if tv still not working replace horizontal output transistor (broken flyback could blow the transistor).
