My Garmin Streetpilot c340 arrived today (purchased on Amazon.com), and it wouldnt turn on. Called Garmin Tech Support, they told me to charge it for six hours. Doing it now. My question is, should this unit show a "charging" icon or something on the screen to show that it is actually charging? I'll know in about three hours from now. Was just wondering if someone could shed some information. Especially after reading numerous postings here about this units battery not charging. Thanks in advance.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

Look on the back or on the side someplace, what you are looking for is a small hole, just a little bigger then a paperclip. This should be the reset button, hit that with said paperclip and then allow the system to reboot. This should clear up the problem.
Try pulling the face off and resetting it,
If it will not reset, work in the car or the house,
The battery need's replacing.
If your savvy (soldering), Ebay for battery,

My unit had the same problem. So I tried this first. With the display unit facing you, the aluminum cover plate has the the word GARMIN on it. Use you fingernail under the word Garmin and the cover plate comes off. The left part of the cover stays attached to GPS and the right side lifts up exposing the RESET button. I pressed RESET and POWER together and it works now. Hope this works for you also.
The cable can be found here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=290 It is the usb cable found close to the bottom of the page you will need to purchase it unless you can find the original box that it came in and the cables may still be in there. The software updates can be found here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-00401-20&cID=164&pID=290 You will most likely have to download it to your computer and then transfer the files to your unit after you have connected it to you computer via the usb cable. if you have a digital camera or a playstation portable or some other such device the cable that came with one of those devices may fit the Garmin. if not you will have to order one via the above link and wait untill it arrives.
Try resetting the unit. There is a reset button under the faceplate. Carefully remove the faceplate with the Garmin logo with your fingernail or a knife blade. There is a reset button along the right side. I bought a refurbished C340 and it did the same thing right out of the box. The tech support people where I purchased the unit told me how to reset it.
