Hi Saw your knowledgeable posts and thought I'd ask a question if you have time. I have the above typewriter and am getting only half the letter when I type. The bottom half acts like the hammer isn't hitting the letter fully on the wheel. It appears to be striking fully but clearly isn't. Even with the ribbon out, I can only get the top half of the letter via an impression in the paper. Any ideas? There are no reliable repair guys in my area. I've tried two for other problems and they are both questionable at best. Thanks in advance for your time!

That was it. Thanks to both of you!
DickyO, I also fixed a problem on another typewriter in our office that was jamming the first few letters together. I did a search and you mentioned cleaning and oiling the bar the printhead slides on. I did this and it works great. THANK YOU!

Probably the platen isn't fully seated in the side frames. Check to be sure the black latches are lined up with the frames, then press firmly on both ends of the platen.
