What's a 'crt'??

Hi! you answered a question on the website that sounds like my problem....i bought the tv from my boss; it has always had the 'arced green lines' when a darker colored screen is on (i've never had a big screen tv, so i thought it was normal :) ....ANYWAY, now it will stay on for a little while, then a green flash, and a total green screen, then the whole thing will turn off....i can turn it back on after a little while, but it will do it all over again after a period of time....please help!

A CRT is the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) or picture tube. That model has been known for the green tube shorting. Its not too hard to replace a CRT if its done safely and correctly but they are kind of pricey to purchase. let me know if you need any further assistance.

My TV was snapping or arcing then no picture at

Sorry to hear this. What has happened is that CRT coolant has leaked from one or more CRT's down onto the Main bd and or the Power Supply bds and shorted them. You must replaced ALL three CRT's and the shorted Main bd and or the Power Supply boards. Then a Full Convergence Alignment must be done by a very good and experienced tech. Not cheap.

I had the same problem. It is error code 61 which is a power supply fault. Had a bad LSB board (pn: 313926719011 from MCM Electronics) which blew out on of my CRT. If you have any observed arcing in your CRT's, they are bad and will need to be replaced. I went to Ebay and found a used compatible Philips brand to replaced the CRT. Do not isolate the high voltage lines of the bad CRT to troubleshoot with a bad LSB. The LSB will short out another CRT (it did on mine). I bought the service manual an learned the set does not tolerant of power line surges. If you fix it, invest is a good surge protector.

Popping; sparking of Red Projector to metal frame

Sounds like the red CRT has an internal short. Sometimes happens that the picture tubes develop an internal short and cause arcing. I world CAREFULLY disconnect all of the wires to the CRT and see if the arcing goes away. VERY IMPORTANT!!! there is a high voltage wire attached to each pictur tube, usually a red wire that goes to the side of the tube. You can get a shock even if the TV is unplugged, as the tube will hold a charge for years after the power is disconnected. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, DON"T since the shock is powerful enough to stop your heart.

The loud "pop" sounds like high voltage arcing coming from one of the CRT's.....you may have to pull each CRT out and put silicon sealant on the anode connectors to prevent the arcing.(one of the CRT's may be arcing internally also and the only cure is to replace that CRT) If you let the arcing continue,it will short out the horizontal output transistor sooner or later.......

Check the CRT socket of the tube that is arching. Could be a solder connection or shorted CRT. If you need further assistance let me know.
