I have several linear/amps/kickers and my best is the Demco Demon 500 Plus that swings 1500 watts on the A.M. side. NEVER KEY UP MORE THAN 2 WATTS!!! Now to your fix:take your radio to a tec and have him install what they call a "swing kit". Tell him you want the lowest deadkey possible with the highest swing. The lower the deadkey, gets you more audio and you will have the maximum output. Always turn the RF Power all the way down (if equiped). You will need a "swing kit" installed for best performance!
Take your linear with you and have him tune it on all setting (high, med, low...etc..,). You do NOT have to have them matched if he does his job right.

The dead key or carrier should be adjusted to the size of the transistors it is driving in the linear. If the Demon is that powerful being driven by a 2 watt carrier it must have a preamp that steps up the power to push the transistors/finals/pills that make the 1500 fictional watts. That is humorous 500 advertised swinging 1500.

Cobra 29 LTD doesn't have SSB. You must have a Cobra 146 GTL or one of the Cobra 148 GTL's.

Hey guys i got a cobra 29 classic pushing a grey 150 bi linear the radio has been tuned and peaked and was told it was set to push amp fine however when i key up i get a humming noise what needs adjusting...

I suspect it is a ground issue it is hard to say. But I have lots of question. Is gauge wire large enough? Power source? Wires and coax laying across or parallel? If it has been peeked turn mic gain down and see if it helps. If you are using it with a external speak, key it away from speaker. Good luck give your radio man as much info as possible a good one will not want discouraged customer.

How to adjust cb for linear amp installation

That is a broad question. It depend more on your choice of amp. Typical setup cobra 29 with 2 watt dead key or carrier into 150 watt amp. We must pay attention to the total swing a more powerfully radio could still hurt this size amp if the pep wattage was to hi no matter the dead key being low. The cobra is no threat to this size amp as long as dead key is reduced.

Can i use a 10 amp power supply run my cobra 29 and 100 watt linear

I will answer the question. Figuring that 10 amps is continuous not peak. 10 amp multiplied by 12.5 it should be good for 125 watts. But you are on the ragged edge. I do agree you should lower dreaded key but you did not ask that question. But a swing kit will solve that. That is amusing SSB and the 80 watt cobra 29 comments.

Have you tried turning the mic gain up,and not knowing Texas star model numbers,is it a mobile linear,if so,do you have a sufficient power supply?Just some thoughts off top of my head.

Just want to know if i should use my ll203 amp in am or ssb mode when running with a cobra CB radio?

What radio?? Does it have single side band(SSB)? If not, then don't use SSB.

AM - amplitude modulation
SSB - single side band.

If you have SSB, there would be a switch on it to transmit in SSB. If not, it is AM only.

Second, Has this radio been worked on to be able to run on an amp? If not, you will blow the amp.

A CB radio transmits dead keys with 4 watts of power, and transmits with 4 watts of audio.

a 4 watt dead key is too much for a linear amp. You will smoke the transistors. Also, 4 watts of audio is not enough to drive it properly. You won't get full power.

The dead key needs to be around 2 to 2 -1/2 watts,or what ever makes the linear dead key half its peak wattage., and the modulation (audio) turned up all the way.

It doesn't sound like you know too much about CB radio's. Not a big deal, you can learn. For right now you may want to take it to a cb shop and tell them you want a peak and tune, and set up to run a linear.

You can find CB shops usually at truck stops. Some area's they are other places. Check the internet for local shops.

Kl 203 rm italy linear amp transmitt

You just have to lower your RF power so that the radio is putting out about a 2 watt dead key. Any higher and you will over drive the finals and burn out the final

Modulation with my linear

the radio you are trying to fry your amp with is driving the amp to hard. that radio has a toshiba 80 watt final inside the radio you are killing your radio with the dead key at 2 watts it causes the final to overheat and shut down because it is not built to be turned down that much. its best to turn the radio back up and use the radio.
