Question about Dell Studio 17 Laptop

1 Answer

I have a Dell Studio 17 .I am not getting any sound from my speakers. I was using the program IDT HD Audio panel. In the playback menu I switched the configuration from stereo speakers to 5.1 speakers. I got no sound after that so I attempted to switch back to stereo speakers but it just keep reverting back to the 5.1 speaker configuration. I checked in device manager to and it tell me that everything is working properly but I am NOT getting no sound. HELP

SOURCE: Speakers not working, but cables all plugged in...

No drivers for your soundcard, this is a computer issue not a speaker issue, contact dell, if you can understand a word they say, ask them "I have Dimension (model number here), I need to know how to install my sound drivers", if you dont know how to do this.

SOURCE: Can not hear sound

Hello,

Try going to support.dell.com and entering your Service Tag. Then click on drivers and downloads and download and install the audio driver that they currently recommend for your machine. Sounds like a driver problem and something that wasn't set properly after the computer was reset.

uninstall your current audio driver because its not compatible with your soundcard, check your installation disk thats the one fit for your soundcard. thats the reason why your getting yellow exclamation mark on audio codec

SOURCE: missing hd audio codec

Hi, I was searching for this driver on the Internet and it seems to be your lucky day, here I found the IDT drivers for Audio, http://rapidshare.com/files/190141494/PIDT001.zip for Windows XP for the Studio XPS 1640, now because this computer was designed for Windows Vista, Dell will not be responsible for the use of this driver, nor any future damage that it might cause, not that I've seen the case, but Online forums state that this driver is 100% working with no issues, if you happen to have one, please let me know, the link is a rapidshare download server, just follow the instruction on the free user and go ahead. Regards. P.S. Here are the Dell Drivers for Vista, in case when Windows 7 comes out you want to just do the upgrade option with vista, and it should solve everyones issues. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=STUDIOXPS16&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

No sound

1.Log in to an administrator account. Navigate to the "Start" menu and select "Set Program Access and Defaults." Next, click on the "Change or Remove Programs" button.
2.Scroll down and locate "IDT HD audio" from the list and uninstall it by clicking "Uninstall" and following the onscreen instructions until the removal is complete. Your shoddy Windows XP version of the audio software has now been removed.
3.Navigate to the IDT audio driver link (ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40501-41000/sp40714.exe). When prompted, save the file to a convenient location.
4.Install the software by double-clicking the sp40714.exe file that you just downloaded. The notebook will restart, so save any open documents ahead of time.
5.After your mini laptop has rebooted, connect external speakers to the audio-out jack of the HP mini notebook and verify that the computer's audio quality has improved.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

No sound coming from speakers and drivers not working anymore...

Make sure you use the power adapter with the speakers. Most audio cards today won't drive the speakers on their own. Either

  1. remove the audio from the Device Manager then search for changes, or
  2. Look at the Properties of the audio device and revert to a previous driver.

The studio is a nice looking computer. having said that, I hate the audio/media buttons. Its likely you have to call dell for service to get that panel replaced.
