Check your service provider. if ok, do check on your network connections on the control pannel

control pannel=> internet connections=> local area network => support=> repair

If I were you, I'd first let Windows Manage Wireless Network Connections:
  1. Click Start If you're using XP, click Start then open the Control Panel. Find the Switch to Classic View button in the Control Panel and click it.
  2. Open Network Connections Open Network Connections then double-click the Wireless Network Connection icon.
  3. Click the Properties Click the Properties button. Look for the boxes at the bottom of the Properties window that read "Show icon in notification area when connected" and "Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity" and make sure they are both checked.
  4. You could also right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon and click Properties from there.
  5. Open Wireless Networks tab Open the Wireless Networks tab and make sure the box labeled "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is checked. Then click OK.
  6. under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center you could find "manage wireless connection" there you could assign/delete wireless connection.

Set up and Use Internet Connection Sharing


Hi,

To enable Internet Connection Sharing on a network connection

You must be logged on to your computer with an owner account in order to complete this procedure.
Open Network Connections. (Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double–click Network Connections.)

Click the dial–up, local area network, PPPoE, or VPN connection you want to share, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.

On the Advanced tab, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
If you want this connection to dial automatically when another computer on your home or small office network attempts to access external resources, select the Establish a dial–up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box.

If you want other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box.

Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, select any adapter that connects the computer sharing its Internet connection to the other computers on your network. The Home networking connection is only present when two or more network adapters are installed on the computer.


To configure Internet options on your client computers for Internet Connection Sharing

Open Internet Explorer. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.)

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

On the Connections tab, click Never dial a connection, and then click LAN Settings.

In Automatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script check boxes.

In Proxy Server, clear the Use a proxy server check box.

  • In the start menu, click "Control Panel"
  • In the Control Panel window, click Switch to Classic View. If the text reads Switch to Category View, then you are already in Classic View and can skip to the next step.

  • In the Network Connections window, right-click on the appropriate wireless network connection, and select View Available Wireless Networks.
  • In the Wireless Network Connection window, select your Wi-Fi (SSID)"Connect".

Wireless networks depend on special-purpose radio receivers and transmitters that substitute the exchange of messages over the air for the exchange of messages that occurs over wired connections on conventional networks. When you power on your PC, Windows Vista automatically searches for available wireless networks.
The network icon in the system tray, shown in Figure 1, enables you to view a list of local networks that Windows Vista detects. Notice that the network icon in this figure is marked with a red X, which indicates no network connection is currently established.

When you click this icon, a window opens indicating you're not connected to a wireless network, as shown in Figure 2.

New wireless network trying to connect to unsuccessfully


Try going to Network and Sharing Center - Manage Network Connections. Click on the connection and enable it.
Also try Network and Sharing Center - Manage Wireless Connections, and moving the wireless connection you'd like to use and move it to the top of the list. Select any operations that will enable or connect to the network.

Well Sir in this case i will advice you to disable the Dell Wireless Configuration Utility and instead use windows utility for a successful connection.

For disabling dell configuration utility follow these steps:-
1)Open dell Wlan utility , it will have five tabs at the top labeled wireless networks , link status , site monitor , diagnostics and information.
2)Click on wireless networks tab and uncheck the first option which says , "Let this tool manage your wireless network" then click ok or apply at the bottom right-hand side corner of the screen.

To Enable Windows Utility for Windows XP follow these steps:-
1)Open the Control Panel from the Start Menu.
2)From Control Panel click on network and internet connections and then open network connections from there.
3)Right-click Wireless Network Connection and choose Properties.
4)
Click on the Wireless Networks tab and if unchecked , then check the box for Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. Then click OK.
5)Right-click on Wireless Network Connection, Select View Available Wireless Networks.
6)
This will lists all the available wireless networks in range. Select your network from the list and click Connect.
7)If you are connecting to a secured wireless network, you will be prompted for a Network key. Type the Network key(which is the password for the wireless network) and then click connect.
8)Your network list should now display your connection status. If you are connected and your router is setup for internet access, you are ready to connect to the Internet wireless.

You can use a wireless network to share Internet access, files, printers, and more. Or you can use it to surf the Web while you're sitting on your couch or in your yard. Plus, it's easier to install than you think.
There are 4 steps to creating a wireless network:
1.
Choose your wireless equipment
2.
Connect your wireless router
3.
Configure your wireless router
4.
Connect your computers
For Windows XP users, Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not required for wireless networking, but it does make things much easier. Service Pack 2 also helps protect you against hackers, worms, and other Internet intruders.

Connect your computers
If your computer does not have wireless network support built in, plug your network adapter into your USB port, and place the antenna on top of your computer (in the case of a desktop computer), or insert the network adapter into an empty PC card slot (in the case of a laptop). Windows XP will automatically detect the new adapter, and may prompt you to insert the CD that came with your adapter. The on-screen instructions will guide you through the configuration process.
Note: The steps below only apply if you're using Windows XP Service Pack 2. If you're running Windows XP and you don't have Service Pack 2 yet, plug your computer into your wireless router and download and install Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Windows XP should show an icon with a notification that says it has found a wireless network.

Right-click the wireless network icon in the lower-right corner of your screen, and then click View Available Wireless Networks. If you run into any problems, consult the documentation that came with your network adapter. Don't be afraid to call their tech support.

The Wireless Network Connection window should appear and you should see your wireless network listed with the network name you chose. If you don't see your network, click Refresh network list in the upper-left corner. Click your network, and then click Connect in the lower-right corner.

Windows XP prompts you to enter a key. Type the encryption key that you wrote down earlier in both the Network key and Confirm network key boxes, and then click Connect.

Note: If the Wireless Network Connection window continues to show Acquiring Network Address, you may have mistyped the encryption key.

Internet connection solutions
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Test the jack.
  3. Test the equipment.
    1. Try a different jack that you know works.
    2. Try a different cable that you know works.
  4. Check your computer settings.
  5. Renew your IP Address
    1. [x] Windows Vista
      1. Look for your Ethernet card:
        1. Right-click on My Computer from the Start Menu or on the desktop.
        2. Left-click on Properties.
        3. Click on Device Manager on the left side under "Tasks".
        4. Expand the Network Adapters and look for any yellow exclamation points. Make sure a card is listed.
        5. If there are exclamation points, or if there is no card listed, you need to reinstall the card.
      2. Set your IP address to configure Automatically (through DHCP):
        1. Go to the Control Panel in your computer (in the Start Menu).
        2. Go to Network & Sharing Center.
        3. Under "Network", go to Local Area Connection and select "View Status". In new window, choose Properties at the bottom.
        4. Scroll down "This connection uses the following items" list to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
        5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
        6. Change to "Obtain an IP address automatically".
        7. After you have changed this, restart computer.
      3. Check to see if your network connection is on:
        1. Go to the Control Panel in your computer.
        2. Go to Network Connections. If you cannot see Network Connections, go to Network and Internet Connections and then go to Network Connections from there.
        3. If there is a red X through the Local Area Connection, or the Local Area Connection is grayed out, double-click on the X to enable.

sm times wireless network did not respond due to wrong setting in internet connection setting....
checked it out.....
see nother lptop which recieve wireless network n do urs setting same as that....
than connect wireless network u will be able to connect it....

Carnt get the wireless connection to work on new laptop


Click Start, then select Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet Connections. The Network and Internet Connections window opens.
Click Network Connections. The Network Connections window opens.
Right-click Wireless Network Connection.
Select Enable to turn on wireless Ethernet or Disable to turn off wireless Ethernet.
