Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a ten year old GE Profile gas table top range, five burner. The igniters all click at the same time, and I tried to remove the one I thought had a short in it and broke it. the harness fell down underneath the table top and I can't get it out. That's the first problem I have. The second is that when I flip the circuit breaker back on the other four igniters still click... really annoying. How do I fix?

Hi
Generally keep the air holes around the burners free of debris and grease by clearing out the holes with a thin piece of wire or a toothpick. Cleaning out the holes helps the ignitor light the gas.Turn the burner to the "Off" position, if you continue to hear the ignitor tick after you've lit the burner. Turn the burner back on to relight it. Ignitors normally make a brief series of electrical clicking sounds when you turn on the ignitors.
There are a few possibilities for this clicking problem. The first one is that the little switch that is behind the burner knob either went bad or got water in it. To isolate the switch that is the problem you can pull one of the wires off of behind the burner knobs one at a time till it stops. That one is the one that is bad. If you have just washed down the stove top then you may have water in it that is making it continue to click. Let everything dry out over night and see if that fixes it. A hair dryer can be used to speed up the process.
If you pull a wire from each switch and it still goes on, then the spark module is bad. You will need to replace it.
Be aware that it is normal for all the burners to spark whenever another one is being lit.
Excessive dirt and grease can cause the burners to light hard but will not cause the spark module to keep on sparking all the time. If a burner lights hard, check the tip of the spark electrode to make sure it is clean.
If your spark module has burnt out to rapidly, or needs to be constantly replaced, you may not have a properly wired and grounded receptacle. Reversed polarity or not being grounded can cause the spark module to fail prematurely. Make sure that you do not use a two pronged outlet or extension cord for your range.
If all else fails you can always unplug the range to get the sparking to stop. You can light the burners with a charcoal grill lighter or a match if you do it carefully. Turn the burner to full on and then slowly go towards the burner keeping the flame as low to the top as possible till the burner lights.

However to get accessed underneath the cooktop you have to see the diagram in your instruction manual.
Let us know if you have something more to ask else please accept the solution.

GE profile mirowave JVM1350WW002. Handle broken

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

You can find handy exploded views and order parts by model number here.

Sounds like there is a stray piece of wire or other metal floating around inside the case. Remove the cover and any breakables in the microwave (the power cord is unplugged for this), turn it upside down over a table and shake it, pound the bottom, and shake it some more--likely the offending piece will drop out onto the table. If so, put it back together and whack it to see if that fixed the problem (cord plugged back in). This process can be repeated.

GE Profile microwave remove top grill

1. Unplug power.
2. Remove two screws holding grille, either on top of the front edge of the outer case or in the grille itself.
3. The grille should lift right out. In not, you may need to pull it to the left about 1/4".

Cleaning ge profile convection microwave

HI HERE THE STEPS TO DISASSEMBLEA gas range cabinet comes apart very easily. Here's how:
Step 1: Take out the screws that hold the panels, and pull off the control knobs. On the control panel the knobs are friction-fit; pull them straight off. Some knobs may have setscrews in the base of the knobs; back out these screws using a screwdriver or Allen wrench and pull off the knobs.

Step 2: Remove the back service panel on the control panel by backing out a series of screws around the edge of the panel. To remove the front panel, take off the control knobs and remove a series of mounting screws that hold the decorative panel to the frame. These screws may be hidden by molding or trim; pry off the molding or trim with a screwdriver, or take out several screws.

Step 3: To gain access to the burner assemblies, remove the burner grates and then the top of the range. The entire range top should either lift up and off the range or open up and back on hinges. The oven door can usually be removed by pulling it straight up off the hinges on both sides of the door. Some hinges have a latch that must be unlocked before the door can be removed.

Step 4: If the surface light of the range burns out, remove retaining screws and panels as necessary to gain access to the bulb. Replace the burned-out bulb with a new one of the same type and wattage; check the ends of the old bulb for this information. Then replace any retaining panels.

Step 5: If the oven light burns out, unscrew it and remove it from the oven. Replace the burned-out bulb with a new one of the same wattage, made for oven use.
