The first thing to do is try updating the BIOS firmware from hp.com - navigate to your model under "Drivers and Downloads" and download the "BIOS Firmware Update". Apply that and see if it fixes the problem.

There are a lot of users experiencing start up problems with this series of computers, though I haven't heard any who have had the CD tray ejecting itself. Try the BIOS update and see if that works. If it doesn't, you might need to back up important data and send it back to HP.

Should I be using "Quicktime" on my PC

You can use both at a time however When you install QuickTime, or change your QuickTime settings, it may take over handling of Flash files. However, this can be fixed quite easily. To stop QuickTime from handling Flash files, do the following:
  1. Close Mozilla (or Firefox)
  2. Open the QuickTime Control Panel
  3. Select "Browser Plug-in" from the dropdown menu
  4. Open up the MIME Settings dialog
  5. Make sure "Flash file" is not selected. This is listed under Miscellaneous.
  6. Click OK, and close the QuickTime Control Panel
  7. Remove the file pluginreg.dat from your ProfileFfolder This file will be recreated next time you start Mozilla
  8. Remove npqt*.dll from your Mozilla or Firefox plugins folder. These files are not required, and can cause problems when QuickTime is upgraded
After doing this, you may need to reinstall Flash Player. These instructions should be the same for both Windows and MacOS X, with the exception of the last step.

def not too much ram. did the problem start immediately after swapping memory if so double check to make sure it is seated properly.
now by doesn't want to start, you hit the power button and what happens (video would be great as mine does this, but there are some tricks that seem to help. you can rule out suspend mode by unplugging removing the battery and hitting the power button

Cannot play MOV video and the problem was MOV Codec mot installed to the laptop

The first solution is download Quicktime in Apple official website. And the second one is just get this video converter to convert your video to MP4 or WMV format and play with Windows Media Player.

My Acer aspire 4720z DVD drive not working, its not reading any DVD / CD's.. what would be the problem and how can i solve this

Step 1 : Check out You have Apple's itunes or Quicktime player installed in your system.I have seen same problem as your's after installing  Apple's itunes or Quicktime player. But it was solve after uninstalling the softwares.

If you don't have  Apple's itunes or Quicktime player install in your Notebook, Try this

Step 2 : 1) click the start menu
2) click on "run"
3) type "regedit" and click ok
4) go to string key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5) delete "upper filters" and "lower filters in the right side window.
6) right click my computer in the start menu.
7) click properties
8) go to the hardware tab
9) click device manager
10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
11) right click the dvd rom and click uninstall
12) restart computer

and check if it works now.

Step 3 : BIOS upgrade

Go to this link below
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_4720.html
and download the BIOS accroding to your Operating system and check.

Note: I don't recommend the Step 3 as sometimes if BIOS upgrade fails,it might make your Notebook permenently unsuable.

In case you want to try step 3,Consult your manual well before undergoing the Upgradation process.

Cd drive does not read/recognize disks

I have seen such problem when you have apple itunes or quicktime player installed in Microsoft Windows Vista.Only unstalling the said softwares solve the problem.Microsoft and Apple doesn't comes out with any solution till now.

but if you don't have itunes or quicktime player installed in your system,Try out the procedure below

Try to turn off the vista's burning feature.

It's not yours or anyones burners....just an update in vista which buggered the policies up

Go to your run command and type (start.....Run.....)
type gpedit.msc
Go to User configuration/Administrative templates/Windows components/Windows explorer
On the right pane, double click on "Remove CD burning features" tick the enabled button, then OK.
Reboot or logoff/logon to apply.

If your vista version does not have the gpedit function, do the following.
Open regedit, go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

In the right pane, if it does not already exist, create a new 32-bit DWORD value. Name the new value as NoCDBurning, and assign the value data to 1.
Reboot or logoff/logon to apply.

This should fix the problem
